THE MUNICIPAL LIBRARY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF LIVONIA
The Regular Meeting of the Livonia Library Commission was held at the Alfred Noble Library,
32901 Plymouth Road, Livonia, MI 48150 on Monday, April 20, 2015 and was called to order
by President Diane Policelli at 4.10 p m
MEMBERS PRESENT. Donna Anagnostou, Cathy Condon, Christine McQuiston, and
Diane Policelli
MEMBERS EXCUSED Elizabeth Newton
OTHERS PRESENT Toni LaPorte, Acting City Librarian
Margaret Hainsworth, Program Supervisor
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The minutes were approved as submitted
CALL TO THE AUDIENCE
There were no guests at the meeting this evening
CITY LIBRARIAN'S REPORT
5.1 City Libranan's Update — City Librarian Toni LaPorte updated the Library
Commissioners on the following.
• National Library Week Gifts. On behalf of the Friends of the Livonia
Library, Elizabeth Newton presented each staff member with a small
decorated clay pot with flowering seeds to celebrate National Library
Week

5 2 Civil Service Report—
• Library Aide I — Noelle Monforton, a full-time Clerk I at the Branches,
was offered and accepted the Library Aide I position at Civic Center. A
second Library Aide I position will be vacated on May 15 and we will
soon be interviewing for that opening
• Clerk I - Jennifer Kankula, a part-time Clerk I at the Branches was offered
and accepted the full-time clerk position vacated by Noelle Rob Varney,
a former Clerk I and current Library Page, was offered and accepted the
part-time Clerk I position vacated by Jennifer.
• Acting City Libranan update—Toni LaPorte has officially been appointed
the new City Librarian
• Assistant Branch Librarian— A panel of impartial Library Directors is set
to interview qualified applicants on April 22 in order to provide us with a
list of three potential candidates for the position
5 3 Assistant Branch Librarians' Monthly Reports — There were no questions or comments
this month
5 4 Council Resolutions—There were no Council Resolutions this month
5.5 Monthly Statistics—There were no questions or comments
5 6 Correspondence—There was no correspondence to report.
5 7 The Library Network.
• Sirsi/Dynix• TLN has decided to keep the integrated library operating system we
currently have by extending their contract with Sirsi/Dymx for another two
years This was done with the stipulation that Sirsi/Dynix add our requested list
of enhancements to the system, or TLN will fast track a switch to another
vendor.
• Odilo Our newest ebook platform had a soft launch in April, basically for
library staff members to test and report back any problems or concerns We are
hoping Odilo will be ready for the public sometime soon
COMMISSION REPORTS
Toni informed the Commissioners that Elizabeth Newton's husband passed away on Friday,
April 17th
Commissioner Donna Anagnostou shared an editorial from the Livonia Observer about National
Library Week and the importance of libraries and their contributions within their respective
communities She also shared an article from the Observer which reported on a kite program
that was conducted by Children's Librarian, Elizabeth Kobe.
FRIENDS REPORT
Commissioner Diane Policelh shared her experience attending a Friend's program on de-
cluttering She said the program was interesting and well attended with about 90 people in the
audience The Friend's next book sale will be on May 15, 16 & 17.

There was no unfinished business to address this month
NEW BUSINESS
9.1 Acceptance of Donations — Toni reported the following donation was received this month.
$25 00 from the Kwas Family in honor of Betty Farhat
On a motion by Donna Anagnostou, seconded by Christine McQuiston, and
unanimously adopted, it was
#05-15 RESOLVED, that the Livonia Library Commission gratefully
accepts the following donation. $25.00 from the Kwas Family in honor of Betty
Farhat.
Meeting was adjourned at 4.35 p.m.
