CITY LIBRARIAN'S REPORT
5 I City Librarian's Update — City Librarian Toni LaPorte updated the Library
Commissioners on the following:
• Budget Process. The process for next year's budget is in full swing and it
appears we may have some additional funds for books and other materials.
• Baker & Taylor Titlesource 360 This is a new book ordering system we
have started using which allows for most staff to have their own login
instead of sharing with others. When staff had to share a login in the past,
it limited the time they had to place orders.
• 2014 Summer Reading Program Video Livonia Public Library won an
award for Best 2014 Summer Reading Promo Video, Reading Programs
1"N
Children and Family in the American Library Association PR Xchange ....."
competition.
• 2015 Summer Reading Program This year's summer reading program is
now in full swing. Over 300 people attended the May 30th kickoff and 148
children registered for summer reading in that one day As of today, there
are over 600 children now registered for the program

5 7 The Library Network:
• TLN Services. At the last Steering Committee meeting, TLN announced they
will be re-working the formula that calculates how much each library is charged
for their services. Currently, the Branch libraries are charged just as much as
Civic Center even though they are only open two days a week. We should see a
substantial savings on behalf of the Branches once the new formula is put into
place
COMMISSION REPORTS
Commissioner Cathy Condon asked for clarification on what exactly Zinio is after reading the
questionnaire that is available for patrons to complete to gather information on the level of
interest in this e-platform. Toni explained that Zinio is a program for downloadable emagazines.
It is very expensive, so we've held off on acquiring the program and so far there has not been a
lot of interest on behalf of patrons for the emagazines.
