MINUTES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH SPECIAL MEETING
OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LIVONIA
Pursuant to the provisions of Section 8, Chapter IV of the City Charter,
the above meeting was held on June 23, 1965, at the City Hall, 33001 Five Mile Road,
Livonia, Michigan, and was called to order by the President of the Council at ap-
proximately 10 03 P. M. Roll was called with the following result• Present--
Rudolf R Kleinert, Peter A Ventura, Charles J Pinto, Daniel C Allen, John F
Dooley, Edward H McNamara and James R McCann Absent--None
By Councilman Dooley, seconded by Councilman McNamara and unanimously
adopted, it was
#639-65 RESOLVED that, we, the City Council of the City of Livonia,
hereby reaffirm our determination to uphold the law and to assure equal
protection of the law to all persons
By Councilman Ventura, seconded by Councilman Pinto, it was
#640-65 RESOLVED that, the Department of Law be requested to prepare a
proposed Ordinance regarding the creation of a Civil Rights Commission in
the City of Livonia, and further, that the Department of Law be likewise
requested to obtain from Frank Kelley, Attorney General of the State of
Michigan, his current opinion regarding how a home rule city may create
such a commission and as such, the extent of the powers that may be
exercised by same
A roll call vote was taken on the foregoing resolution with the following result
AYES Dooley, McNamara, Ventura, Pinto and Kleinert
NAYS McCann and Allen
The President declared the resolution adopted
On motion of Councilman McCann, seconded by Councilman Dooley and
unanimously adopted, this 94th Special Meeting of the Council of the City of
Livonia was duly adjourned at 10 25 P. M. , June 23, 1965
