MINUTES OF THE ADJOURNED SIXTY-NINTH
REGULAR MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF LIVONIA
On May 5, 1952, the above meeting was held at 33211 W Seven Mile Road,
Livonia, Michigan, and was called to order at approximately 8.28 P M by the
President of the Council, Harry S. Wolfe Roll was called with the following
result Present-- Harry S Wolfe, Wilson W Edgar, Raymond E. Grimm, Nettie
Carey and William Taylor Absent-- Harvey Jahn and John Whitehead
By Councilman Taylor, seconded by Councilman Grimm and unanimously adopted
as follows, it was:
#45 RESOLVED, that the hour of 8.30 P. M. having arrived, the
City Clerk be directed to open and read all bids received on group
insurance plan for city employees, pursuant to advertisement appearing
in the Livonian on April 18, 1952
City Clerk, Marie W Clark, thereupon opened and read bids from the
following•
1 Accidental Life Insurance Company of California
(H.W. Curtner)
2 Bankers Life & Casualty Company
(H W Curtner)
3 Aetna Life Insurance Company
(Watts & Seed)
4 Continental Assurance Company
(Wm Wood Agency)
5. New York Life Insurance Company
(Watts & Seed)
6 Great West Life Assurance Company
(no agent)
7 The Prudential Company of America
(E W Blankenhagen)
8. Michigan Life Insurance Company
(M S Carney)
President Wolfe asked whether any representatives of bidders desired to be
heard and statements were made by Mr Seed of Watts & Seed Insurance Agency, Robert B
Green of Aetna Life Insurance Company, Mr Peter Cummins, Mr Carney representing
Michigan Life Insurance Company, Mr Harry Curtner and Mr. Leahy of Bankers Life &
Casualty Co and Florence Wood of the Wood Agency

Councilman Whitehead arrived at 8.55 P.M. and thereafter participated
in the meeting until its conclusion
By Councilman Edgar, seconded by Councilman Taylor and unanimouslyadopted

as follows, it was
#46 RESOLVED, that a standing committee known as the Insurance
Committee be and hereby is created, consisting of three members and
having as its authority the making of investigations, reports and
recommendations on all insurance matters pertaining to the City of
Livonia.
President Wolfe thereupon appointed to the Insurance Committee, Councilmen
Edgar, Grimm and Taylor.
By Councilman Carey, seconded by Councilman Whitehead and unanimously
adopted as follows, it was.
#47 RESOLVED, that all bids received on group insurance plan as
adopted by the Council and Civil Service Commission, and as advertised
in the Livonian on April 18, 1952, and as opened and read on May 5,
1952, be referred jointly to the Civil Service Commission and the
Insurance Committee of the Council for their report and recommendations.
A recess was then called, following which the meeting was continued with
all members of the Council present, except Councilman Jahn
By Councilman Whitehead, seconded by Councilman Carey and unanimously
adopted as follows, it was.
#48 RESOLVED, that on recommendation of the Superintendent of
Public Works dated May 5, 1952, the following lines of Section 4 of
Sewage Disposal System No. 1
1 Alley sewer between Cardwell and Cavel
2. Alley sewer between Cavel and Arcola
3 Alley sewer between Arcola and Inkster
be and hereby are accepted for the purpose of issuing of permits for
connections, but not for any other purpose, provided, however, that
this resolution shall in no way constitute an acceptance of performance
of any contracts or a release of any contractors of bonds furnished
by them
A roll call vote was taken on the foregoing resolution with the following result:
AYES. Grimm, Edgar, Carey, Taylor, Whitehead and Wolfe.

Ili Letter from Coulter Brothers Incorporated dated nay 3, 1952, enclosing
check in the amount of $818 95 for repairs to the traveled surface of roads in
Section 4 of Sewage Disposal System :do 1, was referred to the City Attorney.
On motion of Councilman Jahn, seconded by Councilman Taylor and unanimously
passed, the meeting was adjourned at 10.29 P 1.. , '°:ay 5, 1952
