HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOUNCIL MINUTES 1951-03-26 Page 371 MINUTES OF THE THIRTY-FIFTH REGULAR MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LIVONIA OiN On March 26, 1951, above meeting was held at 33110 Five Mile Road, Livonia, Michigan, and was called to order at approximately 8 08 P M by the President Roll was called with the following result. Present-- Harry S Wolfe, Wilson W Edgar, Raymond E Grimm, Nettie Carey, Harvey Jahn, and JohnWhitehead Absent-William Taylor The minutes of the thirty-fourth regular meeting of the Council held March 19, 1951, were read and approved James L Hagen, Director of Public Safety, made a report on the estimated costs of improvements and repairs on lire Station No. 1 He stated that the building could be redecorated and repaired at a sum not to exceed $250 00 and he recommended that the Firemen be authorized to do the work rather than have a contractor engaged for such purpose. By Councilman Jahn, seconded by Councilman Whitehead and unanimously adopted as follows, it was x '1103 RESOLVED, that the Fire Department is hereby authorized to redecorate and make certain repairs on Fire Station No 1, to have such repairs and decorating done by members of such department and to expend for such decorating and repairs asum not to exceed $250 00; and that such sum of : 250 00 be charged against the Contingency Fund. The result of the roll call vote on the foregoing resolution was as follows • AYES. Grimm, Carey, Edgar, Jahn, Whitehead and Wolfe NAYS• None By Councilman Carey, seconded by Councilman Grimm and unanimously adopted as follow, it was f5f 101/ RESOLVED, that the City of Livonia enter into a lease covering Fire Station No 1 for a term of one year, renewable at the option of the City, at a rental of $45 00 per month, that the City Attorney is directed to prepare such lease and the Mayor and City Clerk are authorized to sign the same on behalf of the City Page 372 The result of the roll call vote on the foregoing resolution was as follows: AYES- Grimm, Carey, Edgar, Jahn, Whitehead and Wolfe. NAYS• None Mr Kilfoyle of 19480 Vteyher complained about the use of his street by trucks This matter was referred to the City Attorney and Building Inspector Councilman Edgar read a communication from Congressman Dondero dated March 22, 1951, concerning the designating of the City of Livonia as a Defense Area in order to permit the use of vital building materials in construction work; and this letter was received and placed on file. Communication from Rosedale Civic Association signed by Lowell G Jacobs and dated March 19, 1951, was received and placed on file By Councilman Jahn, seconded by Councilman Carey and unanimously adopted as follows, it was /"'S14S RESOLVED, that the Rosedale Civic Association be advised of the Council's acceptance of its invitation to have the Committee of the Whole meet with the Civic Association on April 13, 1951 By Councilman Edgar, seconded by Councilman Carey and unanimously rYi adopted as follows, it was /9-"o RESOLVED, that Livonia' s Tax Payers Association be invited to attend the Council meeting to be held on April 16, 1951 Communication from C G Sharpe dated March 8, 1951, was read and referred to the Director of Public Safety Communication from Charles M Clark concerning drainage conditions was referred to the City Engineer and the City Attorney for investigation and report By Councilman Jahn, seconded by Councilman Grimm and unanimously adopted as follows, it was . �`V07 RESOLVED, that the following bills, the same having been duly approved in each instance by the respective department heads and having been identified by the signature of the City Clerk and date, be <-i and hereby are approved V: page 373 Herald Hamill • $262 94 John IA Campbell 8 94 } John IJ Campbell 990 00 and the City Treasurer is hereby directed to pay the foregoing bills The result of the roll call vote on the foregoing resolution was as follows . AYES Grimm, Carey, Edgar, Jahn, Whitehead and Wolfe NAYS: None The Police Department submitted three bids on furnishing 500 bicycle license plates to the City and these bids were carefully considered By Councilman Grimm, seconded by Councilman Edgar and adopted as follows, it was • ,4—VC2 RESOLVED, that the Police Department is hereby authorized to accept the bid of Dayton Stencil Works to furnish to the City 500 bicycle license plates, as per sketch submitted, at a price of $75 00• that said sum of $75 00 is hereby appropriated for the purchase of said license plates and shall be charged against the Contingency Fund The result of the roll call vote on the foregoing resolution was as follows AYES• Griin,u, Carey, Edgar, Jahn and Wolfe. NAYS• Whitehead By Councilman Grimm, seconded by Councilman Carey and unanimously adopted as follows, it was "{6 9 RESOLVED, that the application of Pen Mar Cafe for dance permit be and hereby is approved and that notice of this approval be given to the Michigan Liquor Control Commission and all other interested officials The Ordinance introduced by Councilman Edgar at the 394th regular meeting of the Council held on March 19, 1951, and entitled as follows - AN ollows -AN ORDINANCE TO PROVIDE FOR THE MAKING OF PUBLIC IMPROVEMENTS, DEFRAYING THE EXPENSE THEREOF BY SPECIAL ASSESSMENT AND A SPECIAL ASSESSMENT PROCEDURE was removed from the table and a roll call vote on the same was taken with the following result AYES: Grimm, Carey, Edgar, Jahn, Whitehead and Wolfe 5 , .1 NAYS. None Page 371 The President announced that the foregoing ordinance is adopted and shall become ,;::1 effective on the date of publication, .iday, April 13, 1951. <=.'
