OF THE LIVONIA TRAFFIC COMMISSION
The 638h Regular meeting of the Livonia Traffic Commission was held in the
third floor conference room at City Hall on Thursday, August 14, 2008 and called
to order by Chairman Joe Steele.
PRESENT: Commissioners Gordon Draper, Amy Kirksey, Jim Policelli, Cindy
Quinn -Ventura, Kevin Priddy and Sergeant David Sludl Also in attendance:
George Winlerhalter, 14740 Heyer, Lee McCarthy, 15140 Pere, Michele Belczak,
14789 Bassett, Lisa Hofmann, 38965 Lyndon, Chuck Schotten, 8960 Fremont,
Mitchell Lodge, 8942 Fremont.
The minutes of the meeting of July 10, 2008 were reviewed.
Upon a motion by Mr. Draper, seconded by Ms. Kirksey, and unanimously
adopted, it was
08-31 RESOLVED, That the commission minutes for July 10, 2008 be approved
as presented.
Michele Belczak, 14789 Bassett, expressed her concerns regarding the removal
of the 4 -way STOP signs at Norman and Ross and Hicks and Ross. Her
concerns were for the safety of children who cross these intersections going to
the swimming pool, school, ball diamonds, etc. After discussion with the
commissioners„ and other neighbors in attendance, Sgt. Sludt stated that he
would meet with the school principal and PTA and would map out a walk
program for the children and would look into placing a crossing guard at Norman
and Ross.
Upon a motion by Ms. Kirksey, seconded by Mr. Draper, and unanimously
adopted, it was
08-32 RESOLVED, That the commission will revisit the intersections of Norman
and Ross and Hicks and Ross after school starts in September and Sgt. Sludl
has the opportunity to meet with the school and PTA regarding mappling a walk
program for the children..
Chuck Schotten, 8960 Fremont, addressed his request for speed signs and NO
LOITERING signs for the alley behind his home. Mr. Schotten and his neighbor
Mitchell Lodge, 8942 Fremont explained that teenagers are loitering in the alley
and littering the area with drug-related items. Sgt. Studt questioned why they did
not call the police regarding the problem. Mr. Schotten stgated he had, several
years ago, but he has been trying to talk to the teenagers himself. Sgt. Stud(
stated he would have the area patrolled more frequently and told them if there
are any future disturbances to call the police department immediately and not to
try to handle it by himself.

Upon a motion by Mr Priddy, seconded by Ms. Kirksey, and unanimously
adopted, it was
08-33 RESOLVED, That the commission will take no further action on this matter
but refers it to the Police Department to take the necessary measures by
patrolling this alley more frequently and contacting the Inspection Department, if
necessary, to seek their help in controlling this problem.
The commission reviewed Traffic Control Survey Recommendations regarding
section 12.
Upon a motion by Mr. Policelli, seconded by Ms. Quinn -Ventura and unanimously
adopted, it was
