OF THE LIVONIA TRAFFIC COMMISSION
The 654th Regular meeting of the Livonia Traffic Commission was held in the third floor conference room
at City Hall on Thursday, March 11, 2010, and was calletl to order by Chairman Joe Steele_
PRESENT_ Commissioners Gordon Draper, Jim Policelli, Gordon St. John, Cindi Quinn Venture, John
Katers, Police Sergeant John Gibbs and City Engineer Todd Zilirxik. Also attending was ay resident Roy
Puckett_
Mr Puckett residing at 31642 Grove, Section 15, addressed the commission with a concern and request
for deer crossing signs in the vianity of Rotary Park, on Six Mile Read between Farmington and Meriman
Roads. Mr. Puckett statetl that the city has an abundance of deer particularly in this area to warrant
signage on Six Mile Road alerting vehicle traffic of potential driving concerns with the sudden movement
of deer. He atetl a recent major acadent in the Six Mis/Middlebeft Road area as evidence of this moving
herd
H was resolved by consensus to have the Traffic Division review deer related incidents/accidents
to advise the Commission on placement, R any, of signs alerting covers of tleer crossing in the
park area.
The minutes of the January 14, 2010, were reviewed
IdenkRied as an error by Mr. Draper, from the 653rd meeting that Item 10-02 should mad ...the
removal of STOP signs at Vale at Lyndon to be reel aced with YIELD signs. With this one change,
Mr. Draper offered a motion for approval of the minutes, seconded by Jim Policelli, and the
minutes be approved as presented.
Sergeant Gibbs identified a potential speed limit violation that exists in a'School Zonewhere vehicle
traffic is 25 mph, then increases to 45 mph outside of this zor s! area. In summary, a condition exists in
the Churchill High Scheel area where a driver in the schoel zone is proceeding at posted school zone
speed However, a 45 mphsgn is in dose visual proximity causing potential confusion as to when the
schoel zone ends. Sgns are available that identify to drivers when they enter and exit schoel zones. It
was resolvetl by consensus that members of the commission would visually review this area and discuss
during the April 8, 2010 meeting_
Upon a motion by Mr St John and seconded! by Mr Katers and unanimously adopted, it was
RESOLVED, that the meeting be adjourned at 8 W pm.
