OF THE LIVONIA TRAFFIC COMMISSION
The 657th Regular meeting of the Livonia Traffic Commission was held in the third Floor conference room
at City Hall on Thursday, June 10, 2010, and was called to order by Chairman Joe Steele_
PRESENT: Commissioners Gordon Draper, Jim Policelli, Kevin Purdy, John Katers, along with Police
Officer Chris Koft were present
VISITORS ATTENDING: Dale Roberts, 37620 Scone Ct, Jeanne McFarlane, 37604 Scone Ct Ronald
and Bobbi Jones, 9115 Danzg, John Lann, 36503 Vargo; Darrell Fischer, 9924 Shadyside; all residing
in the City of Livonia_
The minutes of the May 13, 2010 meeting were reviewed_
Upon a motion by Mr. Draper, seconded by Mr Prickly it was approved that
10-19 RESOLVED, the commission minutes for May 13, 2010 W approved as presented
John Lane presented a situation when numerous vehicles utilize his driveway to Winaround!causing
severe damage to his lawn and landscape includingrunning over' underground spnnkler bonds.
According W Mr. Leon, vehicles travelling eastbound on Six Mile Road from the vicinity of I-275 miss their
turns or business centers and turn northbound at the first traffic controlled intersection (Westbrook). They
then use several driveways in the area including his own to tum their vehicles around thus causing
dam We. Mr Leon added that this occurs 50 to 100 times daily. After much discussion and interaction
from the commission, d was made clear by Joe Steele that a No Left Tum sgn is not an option for Six
Mile Road traffic. Upon a motion by Gordon Draper and seconded by John Katers, it was approved by
unanimous vote that:
10-19 RESOLVED, to have the Traffic Improvement Association (f W) review all traffic flow
conditions on Six Mile Read from 1-275 W Levan Road identifying any potenfial insulations_
Ronald and Bobbi Jones requested a handicap sign in front of their residence so Ronald can park his
vehicle. Ronald stated that W is handicapped and owns four vehicles; two of the vehicles are show cars_
A condition arises when he jockeys' cars around for vehicle shows, and at times there is an place to hold
a vehicle in front of his house because other neighbors park in front of their property His primaryvehicle
is parked daily in the tlnveway. After much discussion that a permanent handicap sign would not be
authonzed for his situation, upon a motion by Gordon Draper and seconded by Jim Policelli, it was
approval by unanimous vote that
10-20 RESOLVED, that oo further when bythe commission W taken, and that Mr & Mrs_ Jones
should discuss parking issues with their neighbors to help clove the condition
Darrell Fischer requested a No Parking sign at 9924 Shadyside Street so the school bus can property off-
load his special needs son. Other vehicles in the vicinity prevent the bus driver from door to -door service
that is required. After much discussion from the commission to help resolve the situation, upon a motion
by Gordon Draper and seconded by John Katers, it was approval by unanimous vote that
10-21 RESOLVED, that oo further Won by the commission W taken at this time, and that Mr
Fischer wood discuss the matter with his neighbors to request their cooperation with parking of
their vehicles_ He would also report back to the mmmlssion at the oe# meebW on July 8, 2010.
Depending upon his survey (request), No Parking signs may be an option.
Dale Roberts, vnth support tram Jeanne McFarlane, requested No Parking signs on the deabend side of
Smoe Court in the areajust west of his residence_ Three unauthorized parking spaces are in the area
creating the hazard. Mr_ Roberts stated that at times (presently construction on Schmlaaft Service Drive
and during special events.- parties), residents on the Schmlcraft Service Drive park their personal
vehicles in this dead end area creating a safety and driving hazard for his family This condition has
eased up with the progress of the construction; however, it is still a potential problem_ After much
discussion from the commission to resolve the situation, upon a motion by Gordon Draper and seconded
by Jim Policelli, it was approved by unanimous vote that
10-22 RESOLVED, that no further action by the commission be taken, and that Mr. Roberts
would notify Livonia Police when unauthorizetl ind1widual(s) park a vehide in the center of the
three parking spaces (the two spots parallel to the curbs are legal)_ Also the commission
authorized a No Outlet sign at the entrance to the subdivision
Upon a motion by John Kapers and seconded by Kevin Priddy, d was approved by unanimous vote that
10-23 RESOLVED, that Chairman Joe Steele sign and approve Traffic Control Order (rCO) 10.9.
The commission approvetl by consensus to move agenda Rem request of Blind! Person in Area sign
request tram Linda Walsh that this agenda Rem by moved to the Thursday, July 8, 2010 Traffic
Commission meeting.
Upon motion by Kevin Lordly and seconded by Jim Policelli and unanimously adopted, d was
RESOLVED, that the meaning be adjourned at 9:10 pm.
