OF THE LIVONIA TRAFFIC COMMISSION
The 659th Regular meeting of the Livonia Traffic Commission was held in the third Floor conference room
at City Hall on Thursday, August 12, 2010, and was calld to order by Chairman Joe Steel_
PRESENT: Commissioners Gordon Draper, Jim Policelli, John Katers, Kevin Purdy along with Police
Officer Sergeant John Gibbs were present
VISITORS ATTENDING: Tony Agrarian, 30619 Helfrich, Mary Bourdage, 14765 Bassett Roy Puckett,
31642 Grove, Darrell Fischer, 9924 Shadyside.
The minutes of the July 8, 2010 meeting were reviewed.
Upon a motor by John Katers, seconded by Gordon Draper, it was approved by unanimous vote that
10-28 RESOLVED, the commission minutes from July 8, 2010 be approved as presented.
Tony Amadon, 30619 Helfrich, reques od speed limit signs at two of the main entrances to Brookwood!
Estates subdivision, Sector 11, Six Mile and Merriman Roads, one sign on Bobnch just east of Meffiman
and Stamwich just north of Six Mile Road. Amadon stated that thmughout the woekday paNcularly early
morning (600 - 800 am) and late afteowon (2 45- 7 Wpm) numemus whides will exceed the
neighborhood speed limit Signs posted at these two key entrances will serve as a reminder of speed
issues in the area (Bobrich Street is the main east west read that is of most concern) After much
discussion with the commissioners concemirg speed of vehicles, police presence in the area and
placement of signs etc, d was agreed through a motion by John Katers, seconded by Jim Policelli and
approved by unanimous vote that
10-29 RESOLVED, the police would monitor and collect traffic speed data on Bobrich, and
that a traffic patrol vehicle would identify and cite violators. The data would be reviewed
by the police and commission to detenni ne further action, ff any.
Mary Bourdage, 14765 Bassett, expressed a concern regarding drivers in her subdivision, Section 19
(Newburgh and Five Mile Roads) ignoring the yield signs that replaced the stop signs throughout the
subdivision. She stated she has experienced two near miss accidents causetl bydriver failure to properly
respond to the yield sign. Again, after much discussion on present driver habits, purpose of yield and
stop signs and driver lack of courtesy:
10-30 RESOLVED, it was the consensus of the commission to continue with a police
presence, to monitor conditions in this subdivision and cite violators as required.
Roy Puckett, 31642 Grove, req restetl the commission to reconsider placing °deer crossing' signs in the
vanity of Rotary Park Six Mile/Merriman area. He first approachetl the commission during the March 11,
2010, merung, and presented his concern regarding the deer in Rotary Park After much discussion that
the ay doer population is art confined to a paftcular park or area, plating signs in the vicinity of Rolary
Park is notaccurate information fordrivers. Drivers should always be alert for all animals, deer etc
including children and adults that may dart am in traffic
10-31 RESOLVED, it was the consensus of the commission to take no further action.
However, Sgt. John Gibbs stated that he will continue to monitor any deerNehicle
accidents and advise the commission of any reported incidents.
Darrell Fischer, 9924 Shadyskle Street, informed the commission that new neighbors have moved into
the home adjacent to his, and he wil approach them and dkacss his special needs case to them. Darrell
will have them sign off a letter (petition) stating that they would act object to a'no parking policy in front
of his residence. This when will allow the transportation bus to properly drop off his special -needs son. It
was unanimously agreed! that:
10412 RESOLVED, that the commission take no further action until Darrell discusses the
issue with his new neighbors and informs the commission of his discussion at the
September 9,2010meefing.
The commission reviewed! °No Turn on Red" signs on all four corners of Five Mile and Hubbard Roads,
and after a brief discussion and through a motion by John Katers, seconded by Kevin Priddy, it was
approved! by unanimous vote that
10413 RESOLVED, that the commission take no further action.
The commission reviewetl the removal of parking restriction signs on Parker Street south of Eight Mile
Read Aftera beeftliscussion antlthrougha motion by Gordon Draper, seconded by Jim Polkelli, twas
approved! by unanimous vote that
10-M RESOLVED, that the commission take no further action.
10-35 RESOLVED, that Chairman Joe Steele sign and approve Traffic Control Orders (TCO)
10-10 and 1041
Upon motion by John Katers and seconded by Gordon Draper, it was approved by unanimous vote that
RESOLVED, that the meeting be adjourned at 9:00 pm.
