LIVONIA TRAFFIC COMMISSION
The 665th Regular meeting of the Livonia Traffic Commission was held in the third Floor conference room
at City Hall on Thursday, March 10, 2011, was called to order by Chairman Joe Steele_
PRESENT: Commissioners Cindi Quinn, Jim Policelli, Kevin Priddy, John Kates now with Police
Officer Sergeant John Gibbs_
VISITORS ATTENDING: Jim Sony, 38209 Ladywood Court (section 18); Alex Koch 33315W _ Seven Mile
(section 3), Mark Andrews, 15510 Oporto Street (section 14)
The minutes of the February 10, 2011, meeting were reviewed.
Upon a motion by John Katers, seconfle ! by Kevin Frady, it was approved by unanimous vote that
1149 RESOLVED, the commission minutes from February 10, 2011, are approved as
presented.
Jim Seay presented two suggestions to the Commission to aid in communicating traffic control charges_
1) Electronic posting on the city web site or through email subscription, approved traffic control charges
to inform mskdence of all changes throughout the city 2) Wareing signs in the vianity of approved
changes to alert drivers of speed limit, sign charge, etc_ After much discussion debating the value and
the mechanics of the suggestions, Joe Steele stated that he would review the request wth various ay
officials to determine the options that are available to support the suggestion. This topic will remain an
OPENISSUE.
Alex Koch presented a significant parking issue for customers parking at his barber shop located on
Seven Mile Road east of Farmington Road_ The gravel/dirt alley way access to the parking area is
congested with employee vehicles from a local bakery and a residence apartment Attempts tu negotiate
with the business owner have not produced any improvements. Access into the barber shop is through
the rear entrance. There was a sgnificant amount of discussion regarding this request type of road
confirm, funmonmMe bakeryoperationanddesignabon of available parking, authorized signs, etc It
was suggested! that Sgt. Gibbs would conduct a review of the entire area and present suggestions at a
futune meeting. This topic will remain an OPEN ISSUE.
Mark Andrews presented a sign request for his limited sight father alerting traffic on Oporto Street that a
visual impaired individual is a local resident. Presently, Mr. Andrews is required to cross the street in
order to retrieve his mail. His limited vision and slow walk could meats a safety issue for him_ This request
was discussed in detail: types of signs, if any, that are available and placement on the street, etc_ As an
option, it was suggested that Mr Andrews could explore the possibility with the postmaster tu move the
mail box—to his side of the street — so his father would not be required tu cress the street in order to
retrieve his mail. Mr Andrews was comfortable with that option and he would present that option to the
posh aster and advise the commission of the results. Update: in an electiontc note from Mr Andrews on
Monday, March 14, 2011, he discussed this option with the supervisor at the past office on Saturday, he
was prowled the necessary requirements In move the mad box, however, he stated that his father does
not wish to pursue this option and would return to the commission seelong other options
Ser0eant John Gibbs stated that when weather conditions are favorable, the traffic speed sgn and
capturing control computer would be used! tu obtain detailed information to allow for a more accurate
analysis. OPEN ISSUE until detailed information is obtained
Upon a motion by Kevin Pbdtly, secentletl by Cintli Quinn, it was approved by unanimous vote that
RESOLVED, that the meeting be adjoumetl at 8:15 pm.

These minutes were reviser! on August 18, 2811, to correct Traffic Control Order (TCO) numbering to
reflect the current year_
