HomeMy WebLinkAboutTraffic Commission 2011-06-09MINUTES OF THE 667th REGULAR MEETING LIVONIA TRAFFIC COMMISSION The 667th Regular meeting of the Livonia Traffic Commission, had in the third door conference room at City Hall on Thursday, June 9, 2011, was called to order by Chairman Joe Steele. PRESENT: Commissioners Gordon Draper, Cindi Quinn, Jim Poldelli, Kevin Purdy, Gordon St John along with Police Officer: Sergeant John Gibbs_ VISITORS ATTENDING: Ken Roberts, 16711 Bell Creek Lane, Dwain 48154; Jonathan 8 Kathleen Cwik 9293 Houghton, Livonia 48150; Daw 8 Judy Hudson,9327 Houghton, Livonia 48150; Robert 8 Tammy Hassan 9174 Houghton, Livonia 48150; Rebekah 8 Mabelyn Cmss, 9268 Houghton, Liwno 48150 The minutes of the May 12, 2011, meeting was revi ed. Upon a motion by Gordon Draper, seconded! by Kevin Priddy, it was approved by unanimous vote that: 11-52 RESOLVED the commission minutes from May 12, 2011, are approved as presented with one connection: that Gordon Dmper abstainer) his vote regarding the approval of the March 20, 2011 Minutes. Agenda Rem 1; Ken Roberts updated the commission on the"No Parking'sig as on Bloomfield Lane and Bell Creek Roatl. Letters were sent to the six affected neighbors for their support or objection to the removal of the signs. TWsigmmmin¢olletlwhen Ward Chumhwaslocatedat Sm Mileand Farmington Roads. A simple majority supported the removal of the signs . Upon a motion by Kevin Priddy and seconded by Gordon Draper it was approved by unanimous vote that 11-53, RESOLVED to remove the "No Parking" signs on Bloomfield Lane as it transverses into Bell Creek Read off of Farmington Road. Agenda Rem 3; Several residences on Houghton Street, section 31, addressed the commission. Collectively, their concern centered on the volume of vehicle traffic on their street Somemembersfmm this group atltlressed the commission during the February 10, 2011, Traffic Commission meeting_ At that time, it was agreed that when weather conditions improved, speed and volume studies would be crnducodon Houghton Street. Sergeant Gibbs stated that reports intlicatethe majority of vehicles are within the acceptable speeds—the neighbors agues that speed is not there primary concern — traffic volumeis. After lengthy discussion owing from public road usage—to rosidence use only,' speed bumps'onroadways,dosingtesouff rnmoststreetentranceon Houghton,eo,theresidents concluded that traffic patterns shifted onto Houghton Read from Hix Read to avoid the traffic control device or policeenforcement on Ha Road. The increase in traffic is most likely caused from a oral apartment complex_ Upon a motion by Kevin Priddy seconded by Jim Policelli it was approvetl by unanimous vote that: 11-5l, RESOLVED to increase or shift police enforcement presence when available from His Road to Houghton Roatl. Agenda Rem 2; Sergeant Gibbs updated the commission on the traffic count on Mar iman and Puritan Roads, some traffic studies and patterns have been collected, however, additional information is still needed to determine the proper course of action This dem will remain open. Upon a motion by Gordon Draper, seconded! by Gordon St John, it was approved by unanimous vote that: RESOLVED, that the meeting be atljoumetl at 8:45 pm.
