LIVONOI TRAFFIC COMMISSION
The 671st Regular meeting of the Livonia Traffic Commission held in the third floor conference room at
City Hall on Thursday, October 13, 2011, was called to order by Chairman Joe Steele.
PRESENT: Commissioners John Eaters, Kevin Pnddy, Jim Policelli, along with Sergeant John Gibbs,
Livonia Police Department and Assistant City Engineer Kevin Roney.
VISITORS ATTENDING: Paola Vespa, 14661 Melvin, Livonia (Section 23) and Ian Wilshaw, P.O. Box
530397, Livonia (Planning Commission member).
The minutes of the September 8, 2011, meeting were reviewed.
Upon a motion by John Eaters, seconded by Kevin Pnddy, it was approved by unanimous vote that:
11-69 RESOLVED the commission minutes from September 8, 2011, are approved as
presented.
Agenda Item: 2: Ian Wilshaw stated that traffic turning northbound on Laurel Park Dove must merge
without warning immediately past the shopping mall entrance. After a lengthy, spirted discussion on
the type of sign, markings on roadway etc., it was agreed that sign information is needed. Upon a
motion by John Eaters, seconded by Jim Policelli, it was approved by unanimous vote that:
11-70 RESOLVED that a W 9-1 (lane ends sign) be insmlled on North Laurel Park
Drivejust north of Six Mile Road.
Agenda Item: 4: carry over from September B, 2011 meeting: Paola Vesta expressed
concern that during recent road repairs on Melvin Street that the 'curb cut' was not replaced at
14661 Melvin (this has been the Roosevelt School bus drop off area). Paola added that
parents and bus drivers will use her driveway as a drop-off to access the school and the
adjacent park. Paola has contacted and discussed the issue with City Engineer Todd Ziluark
and Project Manager Mike Smith - both indicated that the former easement (curb cut) would
not be replaced. After review and discussion of options and proposals that Todd submitted, it
s agreed that Joe Steele would discuss the bus drop-off issue with the Principal at Roosevelt
School.
throffifte, Kevin Roney, representing the City Engineering Department, was present and is familiar with
the issue. Joe Steele did exchange an e-mail with the principle at Roosevelt School who confirmed
that this is not a designated/authonzed drop off area. Many options were discussed and evaluated
and Kevin agreed to work with Paola to address her situation. At this time, no further action is
required.
Agenda Item: 3: A review of traffic signal timing at Six Mile and Hubbard Roads (Section 15) (e-mail
request from Jeanette Barna) was discussed. At this time, traffic volume and traffic observation by
the police do not support any changes to the traffic signal. At this time, no further action required.
Upon a motion by John Eaters, seconded by Kevin Priddy, it was unanimous vote that:
11-71 RESOLVED that Chairman Joe Steele sign and approve Traffic Control Orders
(TCO) 1106.
Upon a motion by Kevin Priddy, seconded by John Eaters, it was approved by unanimous vote that:
RESOLVED, that the meeting be adjourned at 8:35 pm.
