LIVONIA TRAFFIC COMMISSION
The 706`" Regular meeting of the Livonia Traffic Commission was held in the third -floor
conference room at City Hall on Thursday, January 8, 2015; it was called to order by Jim
Policelli at 7:32 p.m.
PRESENT: Commissioners: Kevin Priddy, Jim Keller, John Katers, Gordon Draper; City of
Livonia Police Officer: Sergeant Joseph Boitos; and City of Livonia Engineer: Todd Zifincik
VISITORS ATTENDING: Residents Elizabeth & Brim Olech regarding the Burton Hollow
Swim Club entrance.
Agenda Rem 1: The minutes of the December 11, 2014, meeting was reviewed.
Upon a motion by Gordon Draper and seconded by John Katers, it was approved by majority
vote that:
15-176 RESOLVED, that the commission minutes from December 11, 2014, are
approved as presented.
Agenda Item 2: Request from Brim Olech, neighbor of Burton Hollow Swim Club, located in
section 16. Brian and his wife, Elizabeth, had concerns about issues that arise from the seasonal
traffic in to or out of the club entrance. Previously, the commission voted to add no parking signs
on the west side of Fatrlane Street. These signs are in effect only during club operations
(Memorial Day through Labor Day.) Brian handed out a packet outlining his concerns. Many of
the concerns that he feels are unsafe can only be handled by the membership and/or board of the
swim club as the Traffic Commission has no jurisdiction on private property. Brian asked the
commission if we could provide him my suggestions for the parking situation and for traffic
flow inside the gates of the club. Some ideas that were brought forth were expanding the
entrance gate (driveway), adding pedestrian gates (sidewalks), placement of speed bumps, and
better signage inside the boundaries of the club. Ultimately, on the outside of the boundaries of
the club, the commission agreed upon doing a speed study to better understand the traffic coming
from or going in to the club. This will only take place during operating season, therefore, the
study won't occur until at least Memorial Day.
Agenda Item 3: Jim Policelh and Sergeant Boitos filled the commission in on the previous
meeting that took place with Dearborn Police officials. Their comments were favorable and
Dearborn Police official were impressed with the "Livonia approach to the evaluating process".
However, Dearborn's traffic commission is an advisory board and any traffic device placement
decisions or removals lie with their City Council. We remain available to support my questions
or issues from the Dearborn officials.
Comments from the Commissioners: Todd updated the commission on a fighting issue along
Newburgh road near Holmes. The call to DTE had been placed and the lights, as farm he knew,
were on the list to be repaired.
Chairman's Comments: None
Jim Policelh adjourned the meeting at 8:40 p.m.
NEXT MEETING: February 12, 2015, at City Hall
Respectfully Submitted,
Jim Keller, Recording Secretary
