The Regular Meet�ng of the Livonia Library Commiss�on was held at the C�vzc Center Library,
32777 Five Mi1e Road, Lxvonia, MI 48154 on Monday, September 21, 2015 and was called to
order by Presldent Dxane Pallcelll at 4:00 p.m.

Carl Katafiasz, Ass�stant Branch Librarlan in charge of Adult Services, was a guest at the
meeting this evemng.
CITY LIBR.ARIAN'S REPORT
51 C1ty Librarian's Update — C1ty Librarian Tom LaPorte updated the Library
Commiss�aners an the follaw�.ng:
• State of the C�ty• The Mayor shaxed some very pasltive comments abaut
the Library at th�s year's Sta.te vf the Crty includxng an increase in
statxstics during the month of August campared to the same time last year
• Czvic Center Raof Replacement. The propased new roof far Civic Center
is currently in the bidding stage
� • Advanced Director's Warkshop Toni attended the second and last
� trainmg sessian for library d�rectors. These workshops, conducted by the

Library of Michagan, are requirements for new d�rectors to complete in ��
order for the�r Iibrarzes to cont�nue ta recelve State Aid.
5.2 Civil Service Report—
• Assistant Branch LibrarianlBranches — Jeffrey Lelek has been Iured as the
new Assistant Bxanch Librar�an for the branches.
• Part-Time Clerk I — Our new part-time clerk I, Rob Varney, has accepted a
full-t�me clerk I posltion with DPW We have already begun the process of
fillmg the part-time clerk I vacancy m preparatian for Rob's departure.

5 7 The Library Network:
• TLN Servxces. On October 7�', TLN will be ulstalling a new hme management
system on our publlc internet computers called Envisionware. Th�.s praduct has
sc�me better features than our current program, SAM. At the same tlme, filtenng
software will also be installed on aur public lnternet stations in a move toward
compllance w�.th CIPA (Children's Internet Protectzon �lct) rules. Th�s will
qualify us for a brgger telecommunications "rebate" from TLN as well as
preventmg patrans �rom viewing mappropnate matenal on the publ�c computers.
As a former government documents depository library, we were not allowed to
filter our computers in the past.
5 $ Quarterly Budg�t Performance Repozt: Tan� shared the July budget report wlth the
Commissioners wluch reflects spendzng abaut two-thirds of the way through
the fisca.l year So far, spend�ng for almost al1 lule ltems is at 60-7Q°!o of the total
budget spent.

�om:mzssioner �athy Condon passed an a "thank you" on behalf of authar Andy Skryzynski, a
friend of hers who conducted a pragram at Civic Center Library He wanted to express his
appreclatian for the oppartunity to speak at the library and share his �ourney tawards self-
publislung his book.
FRIEIYDS REPORT
Tonz shared wzth the Cor�unlsszon that the Frlends are currently working on updating and
changing their bylaws. She also remmded everyone about the upcoming used book sale on
October 2, 3 &4

On a motlon by Donna Anagn.ostou, seconded by Cathy Candan, and
unanunously adopted, it was
#09-15 RESOLVED, that the Livonia Library Commission gratefully accept
the following donations the baak Rocket Science far tlae Rest of ZTs from Michelle &
Sarah Stiennon in memary of Dr. Hvward Neff; $25.4Q from Susan Smith in
memory of Shirley Bawman; $1.00.OQ from the Livania Garden Club.
