SYNOPSIS OF THE MINUTES OF THE 1,657 REGULAR MEETING
LIVONIA CITY COUNCIL – MAY 26, 2010
Meeting was called to order at 8:00 p.m. Present: Maureen Brosnan, Conrad
Schwartz, John Pastor, Brian Meakin, Joe Laura, Laura Toy and James McCann.
Absent: None.

#174-10 Resolution by Pastor and Brosnan, approving the minutes of the 1,656
MAD
Regular Meeting of the Council held May 12, 2010.
FAT
A roll call vote was taken on the foregoing resolution with the following result:
AYES: Brosnan, Pastor, Meakin, Laura, Toy and McCann.
NAYS: None.
PRESENT: Schwartz.
Brosnan expressed thanks to the Livonia Fire Department, Livonia Firefighters Union
and Redford Firefighters Union; they gathered 2 weeks ago and held a fire operations
training for elected officials in both communities. Brosnan, Schwartz and Meakin
attended and were suited up in firefighter gear and watched an excavation
demonstration by an award winning extrication team of Livonia Firefighters.

Meakin wished a Happy Birthday to his son Brendan who is turning 12 on May 31 and

a very special birthday for his wife Colleen on May 28 he wished her a Happy Birthday.
Pastor wished Colleen Meakin a Happy Birthday and congratulated his nephew Alex
who recently broke the 20-year old school record at Clarenceville Middle School for
fastest time for running the one mile; his time was 5 minutes and 8 seconds.
Mayor Kirksey announced that the City Newsletters will be mailed in the next few days
to 45,000 homes and businesses in Livonia. It is a traditional publication that contains a
wealth of information relating to Livonia. The newsletters have a new look; it is now on
glossy paper, has lots of photographs and is printed in color. They look like they would
be more expensive to print, however, just the opposite is true, they cost less to produce.
Council and the Mayor want to be sure the residents are aware that the newly printed
newsletters actually cost the City less to print.
President McCann invited the public to attend the Memorial Day Ceremony, to be held
at Veterans Park on Five Mile and Farmington Roads on Saturday, May 29, 2010 at
9:00 a.m., Churchill High School Wind Ensemble will be performing. He encouraged the
community to attend and pay homage to our veterans and those serving in the U.S.
military here and oversees.

AUDIENCE COMMUNICATION:
Corey O’Donohue, 17296 Woodside said he was there to request permission from
Council to hold a block party; he missed the filing deadline to be on tonight’s agenda.
President McCann stated the Council office received Mr. O’Donohue’s request to hold a
block party and barricade the street. It was filed on May 17, 2010 for a block party to be
held on June 6, 2010 from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

#175-10 Meakin and Laura offered the approving resolution approving the request

to close Woodside between Westbrook and Vargo on Sunday, June 6, 2010, from 12:00

p.m. to 9:00 p.m. for the purpose of conducting a graduation party, subject to the
approval of the Police Department.
The following items were received and filed:

from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. for the purpose of conducting a graduation party.
A communication from the Department of Finance, dated April 20, 2010, re: forwarding
various financial statements of the City of Livonia for the month ending March 31, 2010.
A communication from the Treasurer of the PRDA, dated May 5, 2010, forwarding the
Plymouth Road Development Authority (PRDA) Annual Report for 2009.
A communication from the Department of Police, dated May 21, 2010, re: objecting to
the barricading of variouis streets on the evening of SPREE fireworks for the location of
Myrna Court, Woodring Court, Hampshire Road and Westmore Court.
A communication from the Department of Fire, dated May 25, 2010, re: objecting to the
barricading of various streets on the evening of SPREE fireworks for the location of
Myrna Court, Woodring Court, Hampshire Road and Westmore Court.
A communication from the Department of Police, dated May 21, 2010, re: objecting to
the barricading of various streets on the evening of SPREE fireworks for the location of
Woodring Drive, Broadmoor Court and Shadyside Drive.
A communication from the Department of Fire, dated May 25, 2010, re: objecting to the
barricading of various streets on the evening of SPREE fireworks for the location of
Woodring Drive, Broadmoor Court and Shadyside Drive.
