Arbor Foundation
The City of Livonia has been recognized by the Arbor Day Foundation as a 2014 Tree City USA,in honor of
its commitment to effective urban forest management.
Livonia also received a Tree City USA Growth
Award for demonstrating environmental improve-
ment and higher level of tree care. According to
Arbor Day Foundation officials, Livonia achieved
Tree City USA recognition by meeting the pro-
gram's four requirements: a tree board or depart-
ment, a tree-care ordinance, an annual community
forestry budget of at least$2 per capita and an
Arbor Day observance and proclamation. Mayor
Jack Kirksey attended an Arbor Day celebration
at Garfield Elementary School, along with Livonia
City Council Members Brian Meakin and Susan

Kirksey said, "Trees are not only an important part of our city's ambience, they are a critical element
of the environment. Cleaner air,improved storm water management, energy savings and increased property
values and commercial activity are among the benefits. Livonia is dedicated to protecting its trees,and we are

The Tree City USA program is sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation, in partnership with
the U.S. Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters..

In an effort to make the report as comprehensive as possible, Mayor Jack Kirksey
decided, working in conjunction with the Livonia Chamber of Commerce, which sponsors the
event, to delay the speech until Wednesday, Sept. 16.
"A lot of exciting things are happening in
Livonia," Kirksey said. This is my 16th

The field is set for an election year that could see as many as six seats on the seven-member
Livonia City Council change. Here's how it shapes u

Mayor -- City Council Vice President Brian Meakin, Treasurer Dennis Wright, longtimetime
Livonia resident Leo Weber and current council member John Pastor, who is term-limited.
If Meakin loses, he retains his seat on the council.
Clerk -- Council member Susan Nash, Eileen. McDonnell, Brian Duggan and Steven
Johnson. Dash keeps her seat on the council if she loses the race for clerk.
Treasurer -- Council member Lynda Scheel, Dale Owings and Gerald Perez.
Because her term is expiring, Scheel will be off the council if she loses.
City Council (4 seats) —Current council member Brandon Kritzman, Livonia Planning
Commissioners Scott Bahr and Kathleen McIntyre, Stacey Dogonski, Christopher

1. The Major Home Rehabilitation Loan Program is a low-interest loan program
for income qualified homeowners for major home improvements as defined by
inspections
