Donald Knapp, City Attorney, stated over the years, the Law Department has taken in more
civil litigation that used to be sent out to outside counsel. A big chunk of that burden has been
placed on Eric Goldstein who has done a great job. Mr. Knapp believed, given the amount
that he and the Law Department have saved the City, there are General Fund dollars that
would otherwise have been spent on Cummings McClorey, or Johnson Rosati. We want to
make sure that Mr. Goldstein stays here and continues to do an excellent job for the City. Mr.
Knapp stated he could not say enough about Mr. Goldstein's great work.
Ms. Mahoney noted that in qualification #3, the number of years was two years and Mr.
Washington confirmed it used to be five years. Ms. Mahoney then inquired if there was more
than one qualified individual in the Department and Mr. Knapp stated there was one person,
but that employee was a Temporary employee. Mr. Washington explained that the Chief
Assistant City Attorney is qualified, but it would be a step down for that employee.
