HomeMy WebLinkAboutLIBRARY COMMISSION 2015-11-16 Y- ,� � e MINUTES OF THE 585th REGULAR MEETING OF THE MUNICIPAL LIBRARY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LIVONIA The Regular Meeting of the Livonia Library Commission was held at the Alfred Noble Library, 32901 Plymouth Road, Livorua, MI 48150 on Monday, November 16, 2015 and was called to order by President Diane Pohcelli at 4 00 p.m. MEMBERS PRESENT Cathy Condon, Christine McQuiston and Diane Policelli MEMBERS EXCUSED Donna Anagnostou and El�zabeth Newton OTHERS PRESENT Toru LaPorte, Library Director Margaxet Hainsworth,Program Supervisor Jeff Lelek, Assistant Branch Librarian APPROVAL OF MINUTES � The minutes were approved as submitted. CALL TO THE AUDIENCE Jeff Lelek, Assistant Branch Librarian in charge of Noble and Sandburg Branches, was a guest at the meeting this evemng. LIBRARY DIRECTOR'S REPORT 5 1 c�,Library Director's Update — Library Director Tom LaPorte updated the Library --' ' Commissioners on the following• f�� � �� � ���- � • Digitization of Yearbooks The Oklahoma Department of Corrections �t y._-' �, contacted the library and offered to digitize our yearbook collection. They e.�~- �or � received a grant from the state and the work digitizing the yearbooks is �`��' � considered a "rehab" method for the mmates. To test the efficiency of the =� � program, we have sent 18 Clarenceville High School yearbooks and are � � warting to see if it will be worth our while to continue sending more books � from our collection to be digitized. � � 4- • Leave a Legacy Workshop Toru passed out �nformation to the ( �l Commtssioners regarding two workshops about legacy gifts and estate �/ planrung specifically with libraries m rrund. 5.2 Civil Service Report— • Part-Time Clerk I — A new part-time clerk I has been hired to replace Rob Varney who left to accept a full-time account clerk position with the Finance Department. 5.3 Assistant Branch Librarians' Monthly Reports—There were no questions or comments. 5 4 Council Resolutions—There were no Council Resolutions tlus month. 5.5 Monthly Statistics—There were no questions or comments. 5 6 Correspondence—There was no correspondence to report. U 5 7 The Library Network: • Zuuo We have purchased Zinio for our patrons at a prorated price through the end of May 2016 Zinio is the world's largest electronic magazme newsstand which offers multi-user access to popular publications. We are hoping to get feedback as well as take a look at statistics on patron use before we decide to renew for the following subscription period which would run from June 2016 — May 2017 COMMISSION REPORTS There were no reports at this tune � FRIENDS REPORT Toru mformed the Commissioners that the Friends are looking into purchasing a memorial in honor of Ron Klingensriuth, a former treasurer of the Friends of Livonia Libraries. They have received a number of donations in his name and would like to purchase something to be placed at the Noble Branch in his honor � ,p , � � UNFINISHED BUSINESS There was no unfimshed business to address tlus month. NEW BUSINESS 9 1 Acceptance of Donations — Toni reported the following donations were received tYus month. $25 00 from Susan Smrth in memory of Angelo Ciaramitaro, $25 00 from the Livonia American Association of Un�.versrty Women in memory of Robert Bennett; $25 00 from Susan Smith in memory of Rosemary Baker On a motion by Christine McQuiston, seconded by Cathy Condon, and unanimously adopted, rt was #12-15 RESOLVED, that the Livonia Library Commission gratefully accept the following donations: $25.00 from Susan Smith in memory of Angelo Ciaramitaro; $25.00 from the Livonia American Association of University Women in memory of Robert Bennett; $25.00 from Susan Smith in memory of Rosemary Baker. � 9.2 2016 Hohday Calendar- On a motion by Cathy Condon, seconded by Christine McQuiston, and unanimously adopted, it was #13-15 RESOLVED, that the 2016 Holiday Calendar be approved as submitted. 9.3 2016 Library Commission Meeting Dates— On a motion by Christine McQuiston, seconded by Cathy Condon, and unarumously adopted, it was #14-15 RESOLVED, that the 2015 Livonia Library Commission Meeting Dates be approved as submitted. 9 4 December Commission Meetmg Date — Toni asked if the Library Commission would like to cancel the December meeting due to the holidays and the fact that there is notlung urgent to require a meeting at this time � '� � On a motion by Cathy Condon, seconded by Chnstme McQuiston, and (-- 1 unanimously adopted, it was `,� #15-15 RESOLVED, that the Livonia Library Commission will not meet in December 2015 subject to a Special Meeting being called by the Library Director or the President of the Commission should it be deemed necessary. 9 5 Annual Report- Toru shared the Library's completed Annual Report wrth the Commission. She welcomed any input, special considerations, or changes from the Commissioners to the report. Meetmg was ad�ourned at 4.30 p.m. � �
