McLaren finished its S22 million expansion along Eight Mile Road, adding engineering and tech jobs, •Ashley Capital is renovating the old GM Powertrain building on Middle Belt Mayor 17ennis Wrrg t into 1 million square feet of warehouse and assembly operations.. Masco Corporation will be moving the company's headquarters and 200 jobs to a new building currently under construction in Livonia. Livonia is the headquarters of Roush Industries, a world-class innovator with operations in 19 different countries. Roush -which builds the DXP pizza delivery vehicle for Domino's-fills 16 different buildings in our City. Livonia does have challenges Right now, we have our own "short-term pain" going on, with the closing of I-275 for the major repair project that will bring "long-term gain" for Livonia. The City has worked closely with MDOT to find ways to curb the noise, adding more trees and low shrubs. Two long-awaited Wayne County projects will finally bring relief to Seven Mile and Eight Mile, west of Farmington Road this summer. Livonia still has "For Lease" signs. But those are going away a little at a time, as occupancy rates continue to increase for retail, office and industrial space. Livonia does have eyesores that need a major redevelopment or just a bulldozer. But, the City has buildings and strip malls getting facelifts. These investments keep up the image and quality of our city. We need to do our part to encourage and support these investments. Livonia points of pride are many We have two fine public school districts. We have St. Mary Mercy Hospital, newly certified as a Level Il Trauma Center to treat severely injured patients 2417. We have the second lowest tax rate among cities in Wayne County and very low unemployment (2.8% in March). Couple all of that with Livonia's great location and our top-notch Police, Fire and other services, and you can see why Realtors tell us houses are selling like hotcakes. The popularity of a Livonia address is clear. Our property values are up for the third year in a row, And, there are 74 new homes being built in." three different subdivisions. Lots more good things are in the works We've hasted two business roundtable meetings and listened to small business owners, who suggested tweaking our sign ordinance , I it; and starting a Shop Livonia program with the Chamber. We're working on plans for a new Dog Park;we're reviving the N`"Splal5h Pa` coifi ° . Eyes & Ears Program, to ensure employees in marked City vehicles know their role in reporting problems; and we're busy readying the exciting new Splash Pad at Clements Circe Pool to open this summer. 1 hope you're as enthused about Livonia's future as I am!
