Thi? opo of
The coming of the New Year
brings new hope. Somehow we
are led to feel that this is the
time when a new start can be
made which will change things
for us.
This is a hope which has not
always been realized ,in the past.
Each first day of January in the
past two years has brought with
it the hope that the many prob-
lems arising out of six years of
world engulfing war -fare. would
reach theirsolution. Yet our third
.peacetime New Year's Day finds
the answer to these problems ap-
parently farther away than it has
ever been.
The reason for these disap-
pointments lies, of course, in man.
It is the selfishness of man which
- has increased the hunger of the
starving millions. It i5 the greed
of inan which has inflicted count-
less. -hardships upon others. It is
the hatred and broken word of
man which has driver. a wedge
between the nations of the world,
so that real peace seems farther
c .New Year
away than ever.
If our hope for the New Year
is built upon that which man
might do and say, then we may
rest assured that the coming
twelve months will again bring
one disappointment after another,
for while the times and conditions
in which we live may change,
man does not.
On the other hand there is
One whose Word does not change
with the coining and passing of
the years. His promises have re-
m a i n e d sure and unbroken
through the ages and will remain
true in the year and years to
come.
If then we would have a sure
basis for our hope in the . New
Year, we will find it in the eter-
nal and unchanging Word of the
Savior whose birth we celebrated
one short week ago.
It is this kind of hope we would
wish for you at the beginning of
the New Year.

Round of Pre -Christmas Parties
Den 7
Den 7, 282, held their Christmas
party at the home of the Leonard
Walkers, Middlebelt road, last
Saturday. The boys had worked
diligently during the past month
and a half making colorful_, and
usable, shellacked paper mache
fruit bowls for their mothers and
bright book markers for their
dads in various designs.
Gifts were exchanged and it is
rumored that a little gift swap-
ping ensued. Lunch was served
and a good time had by all.
Den 6
The Christmas party for Den 6
282, took place at the home of
Mrs. Clair S. Foor Tuesday. These
boys spent their time making
Christmas tree ornaments at pre-
vious meetings, so their party
tree looked very bright and de-
corative. Cub mothers of this
Den had worked hard to make
this party a success and it surely
was. Gifts were also exchanged
and games played, l u n c h
served and the boys voted this
party one of the highlights of the
year and a huge success.
Den 2
Den 2, 282, who are fortunate
enough to have a Cub club room
ad,;oining the home of Den Mother
Mrs. Binkley, held their Christ-
mas party there last Tuesday.

This Den has a very active group
of Cub Mothers and they had
carefully planned for this party.
These bays exchanged gifts and
entered wholeheartedly into the
games. Refreshments were served
and all had a good time.
Den 5
Den 5, 282, was invited to the
home of Den Mother Mrs. Melow
for dinner Tuesday. The boys
exchanged gifts and Mrs. Melow
gave each of them a gift. Games
were enjoyed and because of the
fact that Mrs. 3delow is a gracious
hostess, the boys departed full,
not only from a good dinner, but
also with the spirit of Christmas.

now in the hands of Livonians
and those who own real estate in
the Township. However, more

several thousand will not be

According to Carl `tTagen-

about $50,000 in tax collections
have already been received, most
of this through the mails.
The assessed valuation of Li-

on their lovely Christmas tree
which they made with the help
of their teacher, Mrs. Duzurus.
It was decided to give to a
crippled little boy the money
collected for a tree for this room

woods and brought in a large
bare shrub which they wrapped
with green tissue paper and de-
