V. Review of Events
a. Cookie Decorating with Diann- May 24
b. Summer Flea Market- June 6
Our items sold very well; we were able to get it to look great with a lot of help
from Diann’s filtering through items. Having volunteers with estate sale
experience really helped.
Check-in worked well
Very few kids attended
Had a few health concerns
We should consider increasing amount from vendors and possibly getting more
food truck vendors
We had approx. 2400 participants (Flat Rock’s flea market was the same day).
Weather was 95 degrees. Didn’t sell pop.
c. Motor City Irish Festival- June 11-13
Set-up went more smoothly than ever (attributed to 75+ more volunteers)
Sold $400 worth of stuff at Hinbern & Geer
We should consider getting a larger sign stating that we are selling water for all
events, especially if we’re expecting higher temperatures.
There was a hiccup with one of our tents getting taken by accident. We should
definitely have some sort of marking on them in the future to avoid similar
incidents.
d. Irish Rose Mini Tea- June 12
Very easy to serve people (with fewer attendees thanks to Covid). Everything
went VERY well. The musician was wonderful and provided a lot more
entertainment than just music.
Had tea event Sunday for Irish-American achievement awards. Normally the
induction is in Muskegon but it got pushed to us. We were able to get the word
out more for Greenmead to some very prominent people in the community. They
appreciated having the area decorated (from previous day’s tea event).
VI. Upcoming Events
a. Cemetery Assessment (Union/Briggs)- June 19 (by Bucca di Beppo)
Going through an assessment process at 9 a.m.
b. Friends of Greenmead Garden Walk- June 26 10am – 4 pm
c. Sunday Tour- June 27
d. Love from Livonia- July 10
Cut it down from two days after having difficulties obtaining small business
owners. Discussed a lot more options (independent consultants, coffee shops
\[Coffee + Cream is the best\], etc.)
e. Happily Ever After- July 15-16, 2-6 pm
$5 for people to walk through, tickets went on sale today.
VII. New Business
Vision21 Goals: What goal do we focus on first, and how to we accomplish the goal?
o Engage visitors in positive learning experiences about Livonia’s history through
tours and programming.
o Expand outreach to schools, libraries, and non-profits through presentations,
publications, or traveling exhibits.
o Develop exhibits to reach a broader audience and attract new visitors to
Greenmead.
o Transfer documentation of artifacts from paper to digital records utilizing Past
Perfect and providing online access to our archives.
06/02 Diann Motioned to nominate Deanna as new commission chair. Mary seconded it.
Unanimously approved.
VIII. Walk On Items
Will schedule a second volunteer introduction; have had seven people offer to
help out since the last one.
06/03 Lindsey made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 8:20 p.m. and Mary seconded
it. Unanimously approved.
Next Meeting: Joint Commission meeting Wednesday, July 14 at the Alexander Blue
House at 6:30 p.m.
