Review of Minutes
Approval of February Minutes April Non- Voting Meeting Minutes
5.1 B. Calhoun makes a motion to pass meeting minutes. K. Victor-Burke
seconds. All approve.
New/Old Business
Roof replacement on the J. Morell Simmons House, 38528 Eight Mile. Could make a
motion to replace with something similar. The homeowner/contractor was not present at
the meeting, and no further details were provided to the Commission, so further
discussion was tabled.
Cemetery stone repair at Clarenceville
Bungalow house repair. HPC suggests getting price differentials on shake shingles.
Advocate for noting that we carefully considered the city's historic property standards. Is
there a way to set aside some of that savings for other things (not operations)? Need to
determine how the state views substitute materials and would it apply in this instance.
Should be able to get 50 years with shake shingles. Composite does not require
maintenance. Need to research Interior Standards. Will request samples.
Date to mark stones for repair, possibly in June. Fence gates estimate at $16,400
Preservation Month is May- MHPN Conference May 11-15.
EMU/WSU student internships: Kristin will follow up with WSU intern office.
Will take out an ad for Garden Walk. Did a half page ad last time.
5.2 K. Waterbury makes a motion to take a half page ad out for $50 for the Garden
Walk. B. Calhoun seconds. All approve.
Alfred Noble Library: City planner has no plans for Noble Library at this time. J. Duka
has been talking to the Old Rosedale homeowners committee and the preservation of
the building. Group wants to assist with this, some communication with the library
director. Feedback was that the building cannot be saved. Would be wise to get it on the
historic register. Will consider drafting a letter to the City Planner’s office and HPC.
Union Briggs Cemetery. HPC needs an update on what is happening at the site. Ted
was meeting w/Theatre group. Grading and damage needs to be repaired to the area.
Working towards getting a fence put in along the property line. Emily is in the process of
getting a quote/sketch for iron fence and will be done in phases.
Verizon Tower at Laurel Park. No issue with this going up.
Livonia 2021 plan: Wade Trim had a meeting w/committee. Next step was a flyover of
Greenmead before leaves developed on trees. Most attending the meeting wanted to
maintain the historic integrity of Greenmead. Potentially will have a booth at the flea
market to gather public opinion.
