MINUTES OF THE 780 REGULAR MEETING

The 780 Regular meeting of the Livonia Traffic Commission was held in the 5 Floor Gallery of
City Hall on Thursday, September 9, 2021; it was called to order by Chairperson Jim Policelli at
7:30 p.m.
PRESENT: Commissioners: Jim Policelli, John Katers, Jim Keller, Rebekah Farabaugh and
Sgt. Scott Sczepanski of the LPD Traffic Bureau
ABSENT: Yara Racine, Gordon St. John, City Engineer Todd Zilincik
VISITORS: None
Agenda Item 1: The minutes of the meeting held on August 12, 2021 were reviewed
No corrections were brought forth. Therefore, a motion was made by Commissioner Katers,
supported by Chairperson Policelli, to approve the August minutes as written. It was voted upon
unanimously that,
20-334 RESOLVED, the minutes from the meeting held on August 12, 2021 were
approved as written
Agenda Item 2: Requesting “No Parking” sign due to parking issues on Berwick and Jamison
Streets related to Bentley Athletic Field
Participants and visitors at Bentley field are parking on Berwick and Jamison Streets, making
things difficult due to the already narrow roadways. The resident is requesting “No Parking”
signs to remedy this problem. Discussion was had and it was decided that there would be
signage from the venue letting participants know to park in the parking lot off of Five Mile Road.
Chairman Policelli will get in contact with Ted Davis, Superintendent of Parks and Recreation, to
request that he notify LJAL and it’s participants to be courteous with side street parking.
Agenda Item 3: Traffic Control Orders
Traffic Control Orders have been authorized for the speed limit signs and “No Parking” signs
that will be placed on Purlington Street, as previously approved by the Commission
Agenda Item 3: Speeding
An email was received regarding speeding on Grandon Street between Merriman and Middle
Belt Road. Sgt. Sczepanski conducted enforcement during a continuous eight-hour time frame,
which only resulted in two speeding vehicles. A speed data box belonging to the Livonia Police
Department was placed the week of September 7, 2021 and the results were light.
An email regarding speeding on Hubbard Street between Five and Six Mile Roads resulted in
Sgt. Sczepanski sending enforcements to the area, followed by the placement of a speed data
box. The posted speed limit in this area is 30 mph, but the complainant would like it lowered to
25 mph. The average speed collected by the data speed box was 33 mph.
No New Business
No Updates/Comments
Motion to adjourn was made by Commissioner Katers and supported by Commissioner
Farabaugh at 8:10 p.m.
