Meeting Minutes
Monday, May 23, 2022, 6:30 p.m.
Rec Center Conference Room
Present: Duggan, Bosak, Karczewski, Kent, Mang, Sercu, Spence,
Vandeven, Gilligan, P. Valentine, J. Valentine, Moore
Absent: Spence, C. Spurling, D. Spurling,
Staff: Keppen
Motion 5-23-1 made by Gilligan and seconded by J. Valentine to approve the
Minutes of the meeting held on April 25, 2022. Approved. Received and filed.
Treasurer’s Report: Davis reported revised Zonjic invoice needed to cut check.
Total of $59.25 in commissions added from previous artist.
Motion 5-23-2 made by Moore and seconded by P. Valentine to approve the
agenda for the 5/23/2022 meeting.
Visiting Artist Series in Fine Arts Gallery/City Hall Gallery
Bosak/Moore – Gallery: Moore reported that Livonia Public Schools and
Clarencevile Public Schools had separate shows. Three Cities Art Club will be
showing in June. Mang reported that the 2 new 24” x 24” x 48” display stands
would be completed and delivered prior to the end of June.
Karczewski – Fine Arts Exhibition: Karzcewski reported the following:
1. Ribbons were ordered from Livonia Trophy and the bill will be
forthcoming.
2. Mark Mendoza was called regarding the cost of printing postcards.
Karczewski awaits a return call.
3. The Jurist will be confirmed and signed by Karczewski.
4. Application distribution is uncertain at this time. Mark Mendoza
previously sent out the applications. Grace would like the applications
sent in June. An email and phone line needs to be set up for this
process. Keppen will discuss these items with Davis.
5. Duggan brought up the concern about the jurist not having any
experience in showing her own art. Lots of discussion led to the
decisions that the arts commissioners are very comfortable moving
forward with this jurist.

P. Valentine - City Hall: P. Valentine reported that Photographers G. Roth and
A. Evans would be displaying in June.
MFTH – Duggan: Duggan reported no change in schedule.
Scholarships - C. Spurling: C. Spurling was absent, Keppen to prepare checks
for the two recipients.
School Incentives - P. Valentine: No activity.
Grants – Mang: Mang received the LCF grant and turned in the check to Billy.
Discussion was had about changing the focus of the grant for 2023 away from
instruments in the park.
Facebook - D. Spurling: D. Spurling was Absent
New / Ongoing Business
a. Subcommittee will discuss and propose a purchase of an instrument at the
June meeting. Funds from the LCF grant to be used for the purchase. A
review of the 2021 purchase costs will be done.
b. Tabled until June meeting
c. Tabled unitl June meeting
d. Homeschool parent will be writing a request to join the school art show
e. Greenmead requested that we provide funding for a program they are
holding. Commissioners discussed and decided not to provide funding as
both programs receive money from the City of Livonia for specific use and
not to give to one another.
Special note: Fire Alarm went off at 7:05pm. Building evacuated and meeting
reconvened on the front lawn of the Recreation Center.
a. Opera was discussed as a separate performance, not as a part of Music
from the Heart.
b. Paul provided a list of ideas for the Arts Commission to consider.
c. The Colored Pencil Art Club made a $100 dollar donation to the Arts
Commission.
Motion 5-23-3: made by Gilligan and seconded by P. Valentine to adjourn the
meeting at 7:15 p.m.

2022 Meetings and events – General Meetings to be held at the Rec Center at
6:30 p.m. Dates: January 24, February 28, March 28, April 25, May 23, June 27,
July 25, August 22, September 26, October 24, November 28, December 12.
*Due to Covid-19 meetings may be changed to ZOOM meetings on these dates
and times. Zonjic concert May 7. Children’s Concerts 6:30 Tuesdays July 5-
August 16. Music from the Heart 7:00 pm Thursdays July 7 – September 1.
Shakespeare in the Park: July 29, 30 and 31.
