HomeMy WebLinkAboutHRC 2023-05-16 Human Relations Commission Meeting Minutes May 16, 2023 I. Call To Order The meeting was called to order at 7:07 p.m. by Chair Glover. Members Present: Richard Glover, Haitham Fakhouri, Denise Collins-Robinson, Becky Drzewicki, Madison Ling, and Thomas Emerick. II. Approval of Agenda The agenda for the May 16, 2023 meeting was approved unanimously. III. Approval of Minutes The minutes for the April 18, 2023 meeting were approved unanimously. IV. Chairperson’s Report A. Relationship Development - Discussion Roles were tentatively assigned to the Commissioners. V. Old Business A. Updates from our subcommittees Non-Discrimination Ordinance: The HRC gave a DEI-centric statement to Mayor Brosnan and expressed our willingness to contribute further if necessary. Research + Data: Becky has continued her research and will provide her findings at the next meeting. Outreach + Communications: No new information at this time. DEI Forum: No new movement. Something bigger is planned and we are awaiting the right time. Education: Contact information was provided to Denise and Madison. B. Mental Health Event: Roles were discussed for the event as well as other events that the Commission would like to take part in. C. Ethnic Festival: Mayor Brosnan approved of the idea and strategizing has begun. The logistics are yet to be finalized but a rough idea of the time, date, and location has been discussed. D. City email addresses: We now have access to a centralized way to interact with members of the community who have input. E. Commissions Meetings: Denise went to a L.E.A.R.N. meeting and members of the Commission are participating in the upcoming 21-day challenge. F. Pride Update: We are energetic about the progress that has been made. More logistics have been discussed as well as potential event speakers and other interested groups. G. City Ice Cream Social: No new information at this time. VI. New Business A. New members: Build roster Roles were discussed for who would be interacting with the city’s respective groups. B. Corn Roast Everything is all set in this regard. C. 21 Day Challenge The challenge begins this week and participation amongst Commissioners is encouraged. D. New Discussion? No new information was discussed. VII. Audience Communication There was no outside input that was not addressed previously in this document. Meeting adjourned at 8:12 p.m.
