Miller, Deputy Clerk Susan Nash assumed the duties as Chairperson of the Election Commission. Chairperson Nash indicated the purpose of the meeting was to discuss the implementation of Early Voting site(s) following the adoption of Proposal 22-2 in November, 2022, and where to locate a central polling site within the community. Nash indicated she has considered using the following City buildings: Civic Center Library, the old Chamber building located next to Sam’s Restaurant on Five Mile Road, and the Housing office located on Farmington Road, south of Plymouth. Commissioner Brosnan indicated she felt the Housing office on Farmington Road was probably the best location as it already has security cameras on the building, is ADA compliant, has its’ own parking lot, and has a large open space where the tabulators and precinct could be set up. Chairperson Nash explained according to the adopted legislation, the Early Voting site must be open for nine (9) days, minimum of eight (8) hours each day, prior to all elections starting in February, 2024. Nash stated she considered consolidating precincts moving forward on a permanent basis and it has been highly recommended by the Finance Director to do so. Nash explained this would create incredible cost-savings for the City moving forward with elections but indicated she would leave this to the newly elected Clerk. Nash explained once precincts are consolidated and polling locations are affected, all voters must be notified and provided new voter registration cards which is an additional cost to the Election budget not planned for at this time.
