Agenda Item 2: “Yield” Sign on Off Ramp of Newburgh Road/I-96
Residents Bonnie Thomas and Robert Bronson previously sent an email regarding the “Yield”
sign on the off ramp from I-96 to Newburgh Road. They both feel that this signage is ignored by
traffic, making the area very dangerous to navigate. The worst time frame for the lack of
compliance tends to be during the evening rush hour (3-6 p.m.). It was suggested that pavement
markings or illuminated signage should be added. The Commission noted that while there will
never be full compliance with the signs, it would be beneficial to make them more visible.
Therefore, a motion was made by Commissioner Wrenbeck, with support from Commission
Farabaugh, to delineate the current yield sign with red reflective tap on the cement barrier
(dividing the off ramp and the left lane to Schoolcraft). The motion also included removing the
“Yield” sign from the power pole and provide a separate post, placing it as close to the roadway
as possible without being hit by vehicles, also adding red reflective tape to that post. Both signs
are located closest to 37693 Schoolcraft Road. It was voted upon unanimously that,
