Paul Walters of the LPD Traffic Bureau ABSENT: John Katers, Rebekah Farabaugh, City Engineer Todd Zilincik VISITORS: Autumn Turner, Christine Slegale Agenda Item 1: The minutes from the January 11, 2024 meeting were reviewed. A motion was made by Commissioner Wrenbeck, supported by Commissioner St. John, to approve the January 11, 2024 minutes as written. It was voted upon unanimously that, 20-382 RESOLVED, the minutes from the January 11, 2024 were approved as written Agenda Item 2: Handicapped/Deaf Child Signage Residents Autumn and Christine came to the Commission with concerns of speeds and lack of courtesy on the part of motorists when traveling on Gary Lane, south of Seven Mile Road. The street is a dead end and there are children who are either deaf or have hearing impairments on this street. Autumn and Christine requested a sign indicating this circumstance to motorists. Upon discussion, the Commissioners concluded that the best way to fufill this request per the MMUTCD Manual is with a handicapped symbol sign (W11-9) with an additional supplemental sign stating “Deaf Children”. Therefore, a motion to install two (2) handicapped symbol signs (W11-9) with an additional supplemental sign indicating “Deaf Children”, along with reflective tape, was made by Commissioner Wrenbeck, and supported by Commissioner St. John. The first sign would be placed at the entrance way to Gary Lane on the west side of the street, facing southbound traffic in the right of way, as close to the intersection as possible without causing vision obstructions, placed at the northernmost boundary of 19303 Gary Lane. The second sign would be placed on the east side of the street, facing northbound traffic, at the southernmost boundary of the property 18790 Gary Lane. Agenda Item 3: Updates, Emails and Discussions A complaint was made by telephone to the Mayor’s Office regarding speeding and the disregard for common courtesy in and around the Coventry Gardens subdivision. Sgt. Walters noted that the crash data in the past five years has yielded four collisions in this area, and that he has added this area to the enforcement list when resources are available to do so. There will also be a speed collection data box being placed here in the spring (2024). A request to add a “Stop” sign at the area of Angling and Fargo Streets was considered. It was revealed that the reason behind this request was that a resident’s mailbox has been damaged on several occasions. The Commission suggested that the resident add reflective tape or reflective markers to the mailbox. No further action will be taken at this time. A complaint was heard regarding parking violations on Hubbard and Capitol Streets. Sgt. Walters commented that there weren’t any “No Parking” signs currently present in this location, and what may have been reported by the complainant were actually “No Standing” signs. The business in the vicinity is a gravel hauling company operating with lots of trucks and trailers. The Traffic Bureau of the Livonia Police Department will continue to monitor the area. There have not been any new updates or changes regarding the Parks and Recreation/Bentley Field parking issues. There have not been any new updates or changes regarding the meeting with Councilman Jim Jolly.
