The minutes for the June 17, 2025 meeting was approved. 3) Audience Communication: a) None present 4) Chairperson’s Report a) Updates: Robb D will bring snacks at our next meeting. b) State of the HRC: a productive discussion of goals and reflections on the year, discussed meeting cadence and individual roles. We are an advisory body that can serve as a conduit for residents to know about citywide events. c) Essay Contest: discussed getting the committee together & talked about partnering with Livonia Arts Commission and Friends of Livonia Arts to help adjudicate the visual art components. Haitham pointed out that we may need to tweak the prompt (e.g. Many students have felt silence, isolation, and lack of inclusion due to race, gender, sexual orientation, and creed. How do you think minorities are excluded in modern society with the shift away from DEIB?). Pastor Warren will reach out to LPD officers to help with outreach. d) Discussed potentially holding a Livonia 75th Anniversary event at the end of the year where we have a pop-up banner with history; can work with a $100- 150 budget for printing and other needs. 5) Old Business a) Pride Event Recap: amazing turnout and Schoolcraft was a great venue; layout was favorable. The 501(c)3 has a great relationship with Schoolcraft and the event should continue to grow. b) Juneteenth-Schoolcraft recap: due to spotty weather, we were shifted to a smaller and crowded room. The food was excellent, and the presentation & singer were very powerful. c) Corn Roast: Well attended as usual, brings all the service and educational organizations together for a common purpose. d) Faith and Blue: Well attended event with plenty of churches participating. Had a great conversation with a school resource officer at Churchill (Al) who is interested in helping us promote the essay contest. 6) New Business: a) State of HRC (continued): All members of HRC are encouraged to find a niche role to better serve the commission as we come from a variety of diverse perspectives. What communities would you like to represent and what talents & abilities can you bring beyond showing up at meetings? b) Event swag: discussion was had on whether HRC should have more trinkets (magnets, pens, etc.) to pass out to event attendees. Can brainstorm on what branded materials we can provide outside of the updated brochures. 7) Motion to adjourn at 9PM
