HomeMy WebLinkAbout2025-12-15 Meeting Minutes Monday December 15, 2025 6:30pm Present: J. Gilligan G. Karczewski, R. Kent, P. Mang, J. Sercu, L. Spence, P. Valentine, P. Van De Ven Absent: None Staff: Megan Duby Motion 12-15-1: made by R. Kent and seconded by L. Spence to approve the Meeting Minutes of the meeting held November 24, 2025. Motion passed unanimously; minutes were received and filed. Treasurer’s Report: Commissioners reviewed the 2025 budget. M. Duby shared that all monies earned via grants is not immediately available due to the manner it must be deposited into the Arts Commission account. It is still unclear how the grant money should be deposited in order to have it available after the fiscal year and to spend when necessary. Follow up will be done and reported to the commission. Motion 12-15-2: Motion made to accept the budget as presented by G. Kraczewski and seconded by J. Gilligan. Motion passed unanimously. P. Mang-Gallery: P. Mang presented a 2026 schedule update and reported an increase in the number of patrons in the Art Gallery. A total for 2025 will be presented at the next meeting. P. Valentine-City Hall: P. Valentine provided a 2025 schedule with an updated 2026 schedule to be provided at the next meeting. J. Sercu- MFTH: J. Sercu and L. Spence will begin to evaluate applications in early 2026 for the summer program. G. Karczewski-Fine Arts Show: G. Karczewski had no report at this time. L. Spence-Kids Programs: L. Spence had no report at this time. R. Kent-Scholarships: R. Kent reported that the subcommittee met in October, made updates to the application and P. Mang will provide an electronic copy of the application to M. Duby for online publication. The deadline for applications is February 23, 2026. rd P. Van De Ven-FOLA Updates: A networking event scheduled for January 23 is scheduled. The event is to take place at Tin Cup for the purpose of creating community involvement in the arts and generating new program ideas. FOLA has requested $1,000 from the LAC to pay for costs associated with the event. Motion 12-15-3: A motion to provide $500 to FOLA to pay for expenses associated with the January 23,2026 event at the Tin Cup was made by J. Sercu and seconded by R. Kent. Motion passed unanimously. P. Mang-Grants: P. Mang reported that she is meeting with a dance studio to finalize plans for a program as a part of the An Evening with the Artists 3-part series. Details to be shared at the January meeting. P. Van De Ven-Dance Convention: P. Van De Ven reported that he is looking into holding another convention in 2026. A detailed report is included in the packet for discussion. No final decisions have been made at this time. NEW/ONGOING BUSINESS:  3 in one Series: The idea for Sonatas in the Shadows was further explored with the detailed report presented by P. Van De Ven.  Nominations for 2026 Board positions: The opportunity to be nominated for board positions was open to all commissioners. No new people were interested in stepping in the role of Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson or Secretary. Motion 12-15-4: Motion to continue with the current board members, P. Van De Ven (Chairperson), J. Sercu (Vice-Chairperson) and P. Mang (secretary) was made by J. Sercu and seconded by L. Spence. Motion passed unanimously. th  City Holiday Celebration: Please see invite in your packet for December 18  Proposed meeting dates for 2026: The meeting dates were agreed upon as outlined in a memo from M. Duby, except for moving the October meeting to October 26, 2026.  DIA (representative from Arts Commission): J. Sercu volunteered to be the liaison for this city project.  OPEN DISCUSSION:  M. Duby was asked to inquire about a raise for commissioners  Melissas Converse and Nicholas Pickard were suggested names for potential arts commissioners  The Arts Commission expressed their deepest sympathy to Pam Valentine in the passing of her beloved husband and fellow art commissioner, Jerry Valentine. He will be missed by all of us.  The Arts Commission expressed their appreciation to Grace Kraczewski for her 21 years of service to the Arts Commission. Grace has resigned from the commission as of January 1, 2026. We wish her all the best. Motion 11-24-5: Motion to adjourn made by R. Kent and seconded by G. Karczewski to adjourn at 8:29pm.
