Other Business:
A. STATE OF THE CITY, WEDNESDAY, MARCH 25, 2026.
1. Please let Karl Peters know if you would like a ticket to attend.
B. Feedback on Senior Wellness Center:
1. Concerns have been raised on the unfriendly nature of the building environment and
processes. Exercise class participation has drastically dropped, and feedback has been
received that the new facility is not welcoming. Many seniors who came regularly have
stopped coming. The new structure of the classes discourages the participation styles
needed by seniors (for numerous reasons, including payment structure and classes offered.
Many seniors are on fixed incomes and have various schedules including doctor’s
appointments that do not conform to the new structure of the classes).
2. 140 parking spots were planned for the new parking lot and 119 were created. Overflow
parking to Bentley Field Parking Lot and Rec Center parking lot pose issues with walking for
our participants. We had to resort to shuttling participants from the overflow lots.
3. Kitchen has posed issues. Discovered during use that the dishwasher is not an industrial
dishwasher. Therefore it does not fit large pans.
4. Karl Peters, the Senior Center Director, has tenured his resignation to the City after 27 years
of service as of February 6 and will finish the month in his position. The Commission
discussed this role in relation to the success in programming in recent decades. The
Commission requests that the replacement for this position have a background in
Gerontology as has been the standard for the past as this is essential to understanding the
population visiting the Senior Wellness Center. Dr. Denise Brothers, an Aging Commission
member and Associate Professor of Gerontology at College of Nursing and Health at
Madonna University, offered to be involved in the hiring process.
5. The Commission would like to request that submissions to the Comment Box from 2025 at
the old facility and the submissions from the Comment Box at the new facility be compiled
and distributed to the Commission by March 15.
Next Meeting: May 12, 2026 at 5:30pm at the new Senior Wellness Center
Adjournment: 6:24 p.m.
Respectfully submitted by Theresa Killingbeck, Secretary
