Tuesday, February 24, 2015 - 6:33 p.m.
Present: Duggan, Eno, Fakhouri, Karczewski, Leeper, Pawlak,
C. Spurling, D. Spurling, J. Valentine, P. Valentine
Staff: Swish
Motion 2-24-1 was made by D. Spurling and seconded by Fakhouri to approve
the minutes of the meeting held on January 27, 2015. Approved.
Treasurer Report:
Swish — $500.00 was used towards VAAL grant. Special Activities Account
balance is $15,750. Approved, received and filed
Gallery/City Hall:
Gallery
Karczewski- In February the gallery is hosting the Greater Detroit Camera Club.
In March, the Schoolcraft Community College Student artists will display.
City Hall Lobby
J/P Valentine- February 2015, Virginia Bosak, Diana Jamrog, Rosa Paulus, and
Laraine Walowich are displaying mixed media. In March, Tricia Howell will
display mixed media.
Fine Arts Exhibition:
Karczewski — No Report. Tabled the Prospectus which will be revamped and
sent out no later than July, 2015. Swish shared new ideas for revamping the
prospectus.
MFTH (Music from the Heart)
Duggan — Many applications have come in via mail and email. Selections will
start the first week of March, and will be announced at the March meeting.
Committee for selection: Duggan, Eno, D. Spurling, Leeper, and Fakhouri. D.
Spurling stated that the Youth Commission will donate $600.00 towards a music
program for children. (Swish checked with Parks and Recreation about a
possible Rain Date in September. They said it is okay for either September 3 or
10th )

Scholarships:
C. Spurling —Eight applicants have applied for the Arts Scholarship. C. Spurling
will send out letters for interviews to be held on March 21, 2015 at the Civic
Center Library Gallery. The interview Committee is: Eno, Leeper, Karczewski,
Pawlak, and C. Spurling with P. Valentine as a backup.
School Incentives/Grants:
P Valentine — No report.
Media: Fakhouri: Fakhouri will turn over the media contact to Leeper.
Social Media: Fakhouri will chair this. Leeper would like to keep the Arts
Commission Facebook page updated. D. Spurling will check on who the
administrator is for Facebook.
Old Business —
DIA (Detroit Institute of Art) will share their "DIA AWAY" think like an artist,
free mobile interactive classroom with the Arts Commission. The two trailers will
be promoted and viewed on Friday and Saturday, June 27 & 28, 2015 on the
Livonia Spree Grounds (Ford Field) located at Lyndon and Farmington Road.
Art Show — Duggan wants to set a date at next meeting for Art Fair 2016.
Commission is still tossing around the idea of using a promoter.
LSO — The Arts Commission and Livonia Spree will co-sponsor a "kick off' the
Spree concert on June 18, 2015 for $1,000.00 in conjunction with the $1,000.00
from the Livonia Spree. It will be held at the Livonia Recreation Center.
New Business —
Solicitation Letter — Karczewski has drafted a letter to mail to possible
sponsors for various events the commission puts on. L McCann will review it.
Fakhouri will also help draft/design a user-friendly letter for McCann to review.
Motion 2-24-2 by Fakhouri seconded by Pawlak and approved to adjourn
meeting at 7:55 p.m.
Next scheduled meeting Tuesday March 24 2015 - 6:30 p.m. at the Civic Center
Library Gallery. The third floor library conference room will also be available.
