CALL TO THE AUDIENCE There were no guests at the meeting this afternoon. — N •ter->-_ >CIT'S LIBRARIAN'S REPORT w' ri tis 1 City Librarian's Update — Acting City Librarian Toni LaPorte updated the Library Commissioners on the following: uN • ABL Retirement. Acting Assistant Branch Librarian, Carol Guerriero, submitted her retirement notice on December 10th with the intent to retire on December 31St We are now left with only two librarians at the Branches. Currently, I am going to each Branch to help out at the reference desk and make sure things are running smoothly We are also helping to staff the Branches with substitute librarians and librarians from Civic Center I • Sandburg Hours Beginning the week of February 15th, Sandburg will now be open on Thursdays from 10 am— 6 pm and closed on Saturdays. They will still keep their Tuesday hours of 12 pm — 8 pm. There are a number of reasons for this change. First, it is difficult to staff the branches on Saturday because we do not have enough librarians for adequate coverage The sudden retirement of Carol Guemero has caused an additional shortage of another librarian at the branches. Second, the current schedule has caused an uneven distribution in programming between the branches. Not having another day during the week to hold children and teen programs has made programming statistics dwindle • FEMA Courses. Karen Smith, Margaret Hamsworth and I each attended two FEMA courses covering the National Incident Management System (NIMS) model in order to become compliant with Federal Training Guidelines. Livonia has adopted NIMS as the official response protocol to be used during emergencies or large planned events. 5.2 Civil Service Report—Civic Service has received 160 applications for the Library Aide I position. 5.3 Assistant Branch Librarians' Monthly Reports — Commissioner Donna Anagnostou asked for clarification on the Title I Family Night that Children's Librarian Julie Novak attended on behalf of the Library Commissioner Christine McQuiston, who works in the Title I Reading Program at Cooper Upper Elementary, explained that Title I is a federally funded program to assist students from low-income families who are struggling in school. The schools hold special Family Nights for those who qualify for the program in order to inform them of the different types of assistance their children can receive if they are registered in Title I. 5 4 Council Resolutions—There were no Council Resolutions this month. 5 5 Monthly Statistics—There were no questions or comments. 5 6 Correspondence—There was no correspondence to report. 5 7 The Library Network. • Nothing to report this month.
