THE MUNICIPAL LIBRARY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF LIVONIA
The Regular Meeting of the Livonia Library Commission was held at the Civic Center Library,
32777 Five Mile Road, Livonia, MI 48154 on Monday, March 16, 2015 and was called to order
by President Diane Policelh at 4 00 p.m.
MEMBERS PRESENT. Donna Anagnostou, Christine McQuiston, and Diane Policelh
MEMBERS EXCUSED. Cathy Condon, Elizabeth Newton

CITY LIBRARIAN'S REPORT
5 1 City Librarian's Update — Acting City Librarian Toni LaPorte updated the Library
Commissioners on the following
• Gatun Locks Model. Joe Neussendorfer, a local engineer who is also the
president of the Alfred Noble Historical Society, arranged for us to receive
a scale model of the Panama Canal Gatun Locks The $20,000 model was
originally constructed as part of a display at the Linda Hall Research
Library in Kansas City, MO to mark the 100th anniversary of the Panama
010 Canal Livonia native Alfred Noble worked on the Panama Canal as well
as the Soo Locks in Sault Ste. Marie.
• Secunty Cameras. Toni has been meeting with City Department Heads
along with a security company regarding the installation of cameras on the
Civic Center Campus The contract has not gone out to bid yet
• February 2nd Snow Storm A massive amount of snow fell on this day,
closing 36 area libraries and opening 11 libraries later in the afternoon
The Mayor allowed the library to close at 6.00 pm as we were very short
staffed. At opening time for Civic Center Library, there were two
administrative staff members, two staff members in the circulation
department and one staff member in the children's department Noble
Library was closed and two staff members came to Civic Center to work
instead
• Exam Proctonng & Obituary Lookups The library has collected about
$525.00 in fees since we started charging for exam proctoring and
obituary lookups in October 2014
• Library Commission Meeting Start Time Toni suggested a new 4.00 pm
start time for the Library Commission Meetings. The Commission agreed
to a tnal penod for the 4 00 pm start time during the winter months to see
how this would work Since the new start time works well for the
Commissioners as well as library staff,
On a motion by Christine McQuiston, seconded by Donna Anagnostou,
and unanimously adopted, it was
#03-15 RESOLVED, that the Livonia Library Commission change
the start time of their meetings from 7:00 pm to 4:00 pm year-round.
5 2 Civil Service Report — Civil Service had 150 applicants take the exam for the Library
Aide I position. Panel interviews are scheduled for March 13th to create a list of
potential candidates to be interviewed by library staff The closing date for applications
for the Assistant Branch Librarian position is March 13th
5 3 Assistant Branch Librarians' Monthly Reports — There were no questions or comments
this month
5 4 Council Resolutions—There were no Council Resolutions this month
5 5 Monthly Statistics—There were no questions or comments.
5 6 Correspondence—There was no correspondence to report

5 7 The Library Network
• Vendor Demonstrations. Toni attended three vendor demonstrations for a new
integrated library operating system The Library Network is nearing the end of
its contract with Sirsi/Dynix, our current provider It is still unclear whether
TLN is looking to renew with Sirsi/Dynix, or if they are serious about switching
to another vendor.
• Odilo Initially, TLN had hoped to add this new e-book platform in January
2015 The start process has been a little more involved than they had first
thought. So far, 500 new books have been added to the TLN Odilo platform, but
we have not received a date as to when they will be available for patrons to
check out
COMMISSION REPORTS
Commissioner Christine McQuiston invited everyone to Cooper Upper Elementary's 4th Annual
Leadership Day which will be held on Thursday, April 2, 2015 from 9 am— 1210 pm
FRIENDS REPORT
Toni informed the Commissioners that the Friends' February Book Sale raised $26,192.00
UNFINISHED BUSINESS
There was no unfinished business to address this month
NEW BUSINESS
9.1 Acceptance of Donations — Toni reported the following donations were received this
month. $400 00 from Walter Zaremba, $50 00 from Kathleen Monroe in memory of Ken
Bignotti's father, $50.00 from Cynthia Craig in memory of Kathy Craig Massey; $25 00
from the Livonia American Association of University Women in memory of Dr William
Wachob, $25 00 from the Livonia American Association of University Women in memory
of Larry B Smith; $25,000 00 from The Friends of the Livonia Library
On a motion by Donna Anagnostou, seconded by Christine McQuiston, and
unanimously adopted, it was
#04-15 RESOLVED, that the Livonia Library Commission gratefully
accepts the following donations $400.00 from Walter Zaremba; $50.00 from Kathleen
Monroe in memory of Ken Bignotti's father; $50.00 from Cynthia Craig in memory of
Kathy Craig Massey; $25.00 from the Livonia American Association of University
Women in memory of Dr. William Wachob; $25.00 from the Livonia American
Association of University Women in memory of Larry B. Smith; $25,000.00 from The
Friends of the Livonia Library.
Meeting was adjourned at 4.30 p m
