HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOUNCIL MINUTES 1971-01-11 11841 Iwo MINUTES OF THE OEE HUNDRED THIRTY-THIRD SPECIAL MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LIVONIA Pursuant to the provisions of Section 8, Chapter IV of the City Charter, the above meeting was held January 11, 1971, at the City Hall, 33001 Five Mile Road, Livonia, Michigan, and was called to order by the President of the Council at approx- imately 7:15 P. M. Roll was called with the following result: Present--Robert F. Nash, Jerry H. Brown, Jerry Raymond, Robert D. Bennett and Robert E. McCann. Absent-- Peter A. Ventura and Edward G. Milligan. Elected and appointed officials present: Edward H. McNamara, Mayor; Addison W. Bacon, City Clerk; Harry C. Tatigian, City Attorney, Robert Osborn, Director of Public Works; Gene P. Ehrstin, Director of Public Safety-Police; Rudolf R. Kleinert, Director of Public Safety-Fire; James R. McCann and James E. Mies, District Judges. There was an informal discussion with respect to the Court Case to be commenced with respect to the number of days the Race Track will operate in 1971. The President of the Council, subsequently, took an informal poll of the Council members present, which indicated their unanimous approval of the same. By Councilman Bennett, seconded by Councilman Brown, it was RESOLVED, that having considered the communication from the Mayor, dated July 6, 1970, as well as the informal discussion held at the Special Meeting conducted January 11, 1971, with respect to the Man in Washington Program of the National League of Cities, the Council does hereby authorize the Mayor to negotiate for a not to exceed "quarter of a man" in Washing- ton; further, the Council does hereby determine to appropriate a sum not to exceed a "quarter of a man" for this purpose. By Councilman Bennett, seconded by Councilman Raymond, it was #1-71 RESOLVED, that having considered the communication from the Mayor, dated July 6, 1970, as well as the informal discussion held at the Special Meeting conducted January 11, 1971, with respect to the Man in Washington Program of the National League of Cities, the Council does hereby determine to table this matter to a Study Meeting to be conducted after a report and recommendation is received from the Mayor in this regard. 11842 A roll call vote was taken on the foregoing resolution with the following result: AYES: Bennett, McCann, Brown and Raymond. NAYS: Nash. The President declared the resolution adopted. The item with respect to "Odd Year November Elections" was referred to the Study Session to be conducted on January 25, 1971. The Mayor made a report to the Council on the following matters, and a discussion followed: 1. Five Mile Road Improvement - meetings with Wayne County Road Commission. 2. C & 0 Grade Separation on Middlebelt. 3. Labor Contracts with Police Department and the Department of Public Works. By Councilman McCann, seconded by Councilman Bennett, and unanimously adopted, this 133rd special meeting of the Council of the City of Livonia was duly adjourned at 8.05 P. M., January 11, 1971.
