HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOUNCIL MINUTES 1966-04-11 Page 7840 MINUTES OF THE FIVE HUNDRED THIRTY-THIRD REGULAR MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LIVONIA On April 11, 1966, the above meeting was held at the City Hall, 33001 Five Mile Road, Livonia, Michigan, and being the first meeting of the new Council follow- ing the City election on April 4, 1966, such meeting was called to order by Addison W. Bacon, City Clerk, at approximately 9:58 P. M. Councilman McNamara delivered the invocation. Roll was called with the following result: Present--Rudolph R. Kleinert, Edward G. Milligan, Edward H. McNamara, Robert F. Nash, Jack Salvadore and Peter A. Ventura. Absent--James R. McCann. Elected and appointed officials present: Addison W. Bacon, City Clerk; Virginia Handzlik; Deputy City Clerk; Steve Polgar, City Attorney; Harry C. Tatigian, first Assistant City Attorney; Joel LaBo, Director of Public Safety; John Dufour, Superintendent of Parks and Recreation; Robert A. Shaw, Director of Public Works; Victor C. Phillips, Budget Director; Avram Rosenthal, Library Director; Frank Kerby, LChief Building Inspector; Joseph C. Keane, Constable; Ronald L. Nisun, Constable; Peggy Ann Miquelon, Library Commission; Web Cooper, Director of Civil Defense and Sauro Petrucci of the Traffic Commission. By Councilman Milligan, seconded by Councilman Salvadore, and unanimously adopted, it was #364-66 RFSOLVED, that Peter A. Ventura is hereby declared to be President of the Council for the two year period commencing April 11, 1966. Addison W. Bacon, City Clerk, thereupon presented the gavel to the new President, and Mr. Ventura presided over the balance of the meeting. By Councilman Salvadore, seconded by Councilman Milligan, and unanimously adopted, it was #365-66 RESOLVED, that Robert F. Nash is hereby declared to be Vice President of the City Council for the two year period commencing April 11, 1966. By Councilman Milligan, seconded by Councilman Kleinert, and unanimously adopted, it was Page 7841 #366-66 RESOLVED, that the minutes of the 532nd regular meeting of the Council of the City of Livonia held on April 6, 1966, are hereby approved. By Councilman McNamara, seconded by Councilman Kleinert, and unanimously adopted, it was #367-66 RESOLVED, that pursuant to Section 1 of Chapter X of the Charter of the City of Livonia, the Council does hereby appoint Edward G. Milligan as one of the Supervisors of the City of Livonia to represent the City on the Board of Supervisors for the County of Wayne, to hold office for a term of two years following this appointment and until his successor shall have been duly appointed and qualified, and with all the powers and duties set forth in said section; provided, however, that the person appointed to such office shall comply with the provisions of Sections 2 and 3 of Chapter X of the Charter. By Councilman Milligan, seconded by Councilman Nash, and unanimously adopted, it was #368-66 RESOLVED, that pursuant to Section 1 of Chapter X of the Charter of the City of Livonia, the Council does hereby appoint Jack Salvadore as one of the Supervisors of the City of Livonia to represent the City on the Board of Supervisors for the County of Wayne, to hold office for a term of two years following this appointment and until his successor shall have been duly appointed and qualified, and with all the powers and duties set forth in said section; provided, however, that the person appointed to such office shall comply with the provisions of Sections 2 and 3 of Chapter X of the Charter. By Councilman Nash, seconded by Councilman McNamara, and unanimously adopted, it was #369-66 RESOLVED, that pursuant to Section 3.02 of the Retirement Ordi- nance, Ordinance No. 77, as amended, of the City of Livonia, Edward G. Milligan is hereby appointed to the Board of Trustees for the Employees Retirement System. The following resolution was unanimously introduced, supported, and adopted: #370-66 WHEREAS, John F. Dooley has faithfully served the City of Livonia as a member of the City Council for the past four years; and WHEREAS, Councilman Dooley has, in the course of such service, given unselfishly of his time and conducted himself at all times in a manner so as to merit the commendation of the people of this community; and WHEREAS, during his tenure as a Councilman and as a representa- tive of the City on the Wayne County Board of Supervisors, each member of the City Council has come to respect John's sound working knowledge of community matters, his unselfish desire to work for the best interests Page 7842 of his City and his efforts toward making the City of Livonia the best possible community in which to work and live; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Councilman Dooley having chosen to retire from City service, the City Council takes this means to express its sincere respect and esteem to him together with its heartfelt thanks for a job well done. The President announced the appointment of the following Committees: Finance and Insurance Committee: Jack Salvadore, Chairman Rudolf R. Kleinert Robert F. Nash Water Supply, Drainage, Sewage & Rudolf R. Kleinert, Chairman Waste Disposal Committee: Edward G. Milligan (Water & Sewer Committee) James R. McCann Streets, Roads and Plats Committee: Edward H. McNamara, Chairman (Also Liaison Committee with CityRudolf R. Kleinert Planning Commission) James R McCann School Board and City Council Joint Jack Salvadore, Chairman Committee; and Youth Recreation Robert F. Nash Committee: Edward H. Milligan On motion of Councilman McNamara, seconded by Councilman Nash and unanimously adopted, this 533rd Regular Meeting of the Council of the City of Livonia was duly adjourned at 10:11 P.
