HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOUNCIL MINUTES 1954-09-01 Page 1590 /j MINUTES MINUTES OF THE TWENTY-FIRST SPECIAL MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LIVONIA On September 1, 1954, the above meeting was held at 33001 Five Mile Road, Livonia, Michigan, and was called to order at approximately 9:15 P M , by the President of the Council, John T Daugherty Roll was called with the following result. Present-- John T Daugherty, David L Jones, Harry R Killam, Rudolf R. Kleinert, Nettie Carey and Wilson W Edgar Absent-- John W Whitehead Councilman Whitehead waived his notice for attendance at this meeting By Councilman Kleinert, seconded by Councilman Carey and unanimously adopted, it was #1717 RESOLVED, that, with the consent of the Mayor, the Council does hereby retain William J. McBrearty, Attorney at Law, to represent the City of Livonia as defendant in Wayne County Circuit Court Case, in Chancery #522950, such case having been filed against the City of Livonia under date of August 27, 1954, by the Canteen Company, a 111 Delaware Corporation, of 1315 Academy Avenue, Ferndale , Michigan A recess was called at 9:35 P M., after which the Council resumed with all members present who were named as present in the original roll call of this meeting The City Clerk read a letter from Mr Nandino Perlongo, Attorney, dated August 30, 1954, regarding Wayne County Circuit Court Case vs George Harmon, Chief of Police After some discussion, the City Clerk was authorized to obtain further information from Mr Perlongo A recess was called at 10.30 P M , after which the Council resumed with all members present who were named as present in the original roll call of this meeting By Councilman Jones, seconded by Councilman Killam, it was ##1718 RESOLVED, that the Department of Parks & Recreation is hereby authorized to transfer funds as requested by Clarence Hoffman, Superin- tendent, and that such funds in the amount of $2,450 00 will be invested in the Acquisition of Land Account Page 1591 A roll call vote was taken on the foregoing resolution with the following result- AYES Jones, Killam, Kleinert, Carey, Edgar and Daugherty NAYS. None By Councilman Edgar, seconded by Councilman Carey and unanimously adopted, it was #1719 RESOLVED, that , having oo nsidered the recommendation of Clarence Hoffman, Superintendent of Parks and Recreation and Cole S Brembeck, Superintendent of Livonia Public Schools regarding the pur- chase of a certain parcel of land located in the South 1/2 of Section 34, Town 1 South, Range 9 East, City of Livonia , Wayne County, Michigan, such land being presently owned by the Shelden Land Company, the Council does hereby approve the purchase of approximately 12 acres for a park site, at a price of $1500.00 per acre; provided, however, that the description of such lard shall be ascertained and approved by the City Engineer, that a warranty deed and title policy to such land shall be delivered to the City of Livonia by the Shelden Land Company, and upon fulfillment of the above requirements, the City Clerk aid City Treasurer are hereby authorized to do all things necessary to the full performance of this resolution A roll call vote was taken on the foregoing resolution with the following result AYES Jones, Killam, Kleinert, Carey, Edgar and Daugherty NAYS- None By Councilman Jones, seconded by Councilman Killam and unanimously adopted, this 21st special meeting of the Council was duly adjourned at 10:55 P M , September 1, 1954.
