HomeMy WebLinkAboutTraffic Commission 2008-02-14MINUTES OF THE 633`" REGULAR MEETING OF THE LIVONIA TRAFFIC COMMISSION The 633rd Regular meeting of the Livonia Traffic Commission was held in the third floor conference room at City Hall on Thursday, February 14, 2008 and called to order by Chairman Joe Steele. PRESENT: Commissioners Gordon Draper, Amy Kirksey, Jim Policelli, Kevin Priddy, Cindy Quin -Ventura and Sergeant David Studt. The chairman welcomed our new commissioner Jim Policelli. Mr. Policelli was recently appointed by Mayor Kirksey. He is replacing Thomas Kerr who was terminated from the position January 17, 2008. The minutes of the meeting of December 13, 2007 were reviewed. The January meeting was cancelled. Upon a motion by Mr. Draper, seconded by Ms. Kirksey, and unanimously adopted, it was RESOLVED, That the commission minutes for December 13, 2007 be approved as presented with a correction to show that Mr. Priddy was not in attendance. The Commission reviewed the letter from Michael T. Slater, Director of Finance, regarding the renewal of the Agreement with the Traffic Improvement Association (TIA). Upon a motion by Mrs. Quin -Ventura, seconded by Mr. Priddy, and unanimously adopted, it was O1-08 RESOLVED, That the chairman will send a letter to Finance approving the renewal of the Traffic Improvement Association agreement Sgt. Studt stated that he had met with the City Engineer and engineers from Wayne County and TTA with regard to the left hon ]ave and NO PARKING signs on Wayne Rd. at Seven Mile. It was the engineers' opinion that the road was correctly signed and there should be no changes made. Upon a motion by Mr. Priddy, seconded by Mrs. Quin -Ventura, and unanimously adopted, it was 02-08 RESOLVED, That the Commission will take no further action with regard to the left tum lave and NO PARKING signs on Wayne Rd. at Seven Mile. TRAFFIC COMMISSION MINUTES February 14, 2008 Page 2 The commission discussed Am Arbor Road and Newburgh. Sgt. Studt stated that he was waiting for an answer from M -DOT.. Upon a motion by Mr. Draper, seconded by Ms. Kirksey, and mar mously adopted, it was 03-08 RESOLVED, That the Commission will postpone reviewing the matter of Am Arbor Road and Newburgh until next month's meeting or when a report from M -DOT is received. The commission reviewed the following recommendations for Section 14 received from the Police Department. Section 14 Major Changes: Remove STOP for e/b and w/b Rayburn at SmOset Add CROSS TRAFFIC DOES NOT STOP to existing STOP for nth Sunset at Rayburn Remove STOP for Henry Ruff at Rayburn Change STOP to YIELD for Rayburn atHenry Ruff, add CROSS TRAFFIC DOES NOT STOP Remove STOP (2) at Greenland and Henry Ruff Minor Changes: Install YIELD for east Dorms A Roycroft Install YIELD for north Bainbridge at Roycroft Install YIELD for south Doris at Munger Install ALL WAY on STOP signs A Puritan and Henry Ruff Change STOP to YIELD for Greenland at Puritan Replace ROAD EN DS sign on Rayburn at Henry Ruff with double arrow (W 1-7) Install advance school warning assembly (Sl -1 with W14 -9p "AHEAD") For south Henry Ruff north of Rayburn And on Rayburn west of Henry Ruff Install brightsides on three arrow signs at Sunset and Rayburn, and both Arrows at Greenlane and Henry Ruff TRAFFIC COMMISSION MINUTES February 14, 2008 Page 3 Upon a motion by Mr. Draper, seconded by Mr. Policelli, and unanimously adopted, it was 0405 RESOLVED, That the Commission approves the recommendations regarding Section 14 as submitted by the Police Department. The Commission discussed traffic light timing on Schoolcraft at Stark Rd. Sgt Shalt said he would talk to the engineer A Wayne County about this. Upon a motion by Mrs. Quin -Ventura, seconded by Mr. Draper, and unanimously adopted, it was 05-08 RESOLVED, That the Commission will take no further action on this matter. The Commission reviewed the following Traffic Control Orders received from the Police Department: Control Order No.: 08-01 Permanent Section Remove temporary CROSS TRAFFIC DOES NOT STOP (W44p) from the following locations: Bennett at Levan, Nordigate at Fairway, Say at Levan, Heatherlea at Curtis, Gardner/Bennett at Wayne, Curtis at Wayne Control Order No. 08-02 Permanent Section 10 Remove temporary CROSS TRAFFIC DOES NOT STOP (W44p) from Loveland at Curtis Control Order No. 08-03 Permanent Section 9 Remove temporary CROSS TRAFFIC DOES NOT STOP (W44p) from Fihnore A Clarita; Whitby at Curtis; Stamford at Curtis; Fravcavilla at Myron Control Order No. 08-04 Permanent Section 20 Remove temporary CROSS TRAFFIC DOES NOT STOP (W4 -4p) from Perth at Park; Perth at Yale; Barbaro A Yale; Ronnie Lave/Henry at Yale; Park A Lyndon; Fairway A Lyndon Control Order No. 08-05 Permanent Section 21 Remove temporary CROSS TRAFFIC DOES NOT STOP (W4 -4p) from Henry at Ellen; Henry at Gary Lave; Lyndon at Ellen; Henry at Riverside; Perth at Ellen; Ramblewood at Perth TRAFFIC COMMISSION MINUTES February 14, 2008 Page 4 Control Order No. 08-06 Permanent Section 3 Remove temporary CROSS TRAFFIC DOES NOT STOP (W4 -4p) from Shadyside at Norfolk; Norfolk at Hubbard; Parker at Norfolk; Norfolk at Hubbard Upon a motion by Mrs. Quin-Venhua, seconded by Ms. Kirksey, and unanimously adopted, it was 06-08 RESOLVED, That the Commission approves Traffic Control Order 08-01 through 08-06 (removal of CROSS TRAFFIC DOES NOT STOP (W4 -4P) from Sections 8, 9, 10, 20, 21 and 3 (past the 90 day requirement). The Commission reviewed the Police Department's request for removal of signal warning sign (W3-3) for northbound His 500 feet south of Am Arbor Road. Upon a motion by Mr. Policelli, seconded by Ms. Ktrksey, and unanimously adopted, it was 07-08 RESOLVED, That the Commission approves the Police Department's request for removal of signal warning sign (W3-3) for northbound Hix 500 feet south of Am Arbor Road. The Commission reviewed the Police Department's requests for removal of school crosswalk signs (old S1-2) on Hix, north and south of Northfield; removal of advance school warning signs (S1-1 on northbound His: 600 feet south of Northfield and northbound His at 9226 Hix. Upon a motion by Mr. Priddy, seconded by Mr. Policelli, and unanimously adopted, it was 08-08 RESOLVED, That the commission approves the Police Department's requests for removal of school crosswalk signs (old S 1-2) on Hix, north and south of Northfield; removal of advance school warning signs (Sl -1 on northbound His: 600 feet south of Northfield a d northbound His at 9226 Hix. Upon a motion by Mr. Doper, seconded by Mrs. Quin-Venhua, and unanimously adopted, it was 09-08 RESOLVED, That the commission approves the Police Department's request to add supplemental AHEAD (wl6-9P) to existing S1-1 signs at northbound Newbmgh north of Lyndon; northbound Newburgh at Myrna; southbound Newbmgh at Southampton.
