HomeMy WebLinkAboutTraffic Commission 2010-01-14MINUTES OF THE 663rd REGULAR MEETING OF THE LIVONIA TRAFFIC COMMISSION The 653rd Regular meeting of the Livonia Traffic Commission was held in the third Floor conference room at City Hall on Thursday January 14, 2010 and called to order by Chairman Joe Steele_ PRESENT_ Commissioners Gordon Draper, Jim Policelli, Kevin Priddy, John Katers, Cindi QuimFVentura, Gordon St John, Sergeant David Stird[ and Sergeant John Gibbs_ Also present Kevin Maillard, 31501 Vargo; Charlotte Hudson, 14146 Henry Ruff{ Phyllis Paterson, 14100 Henry Ruff Chairman Steele thanked Sergeant Studt for all the work he has done in coordinating the traffic signs uptlzting in the City of Livonia_ This being the sergeant's last meeting with the commission, the chairman presented him with a "STUDT' STOP sign in his honor The Sergeant graciously acceptetl his trophy and introduced Sergeant John Gibbs who will replace him on the commission The minutes of the meeting of December 10, 2009 were roviewetl_ Upon a motion by Mr. Draper, seconder! by Mr Katers, and approved, d was 10411 RESOLVED, That the commission minutes for December 10, 2009 be approved as presented. Charlotte Hudson, 14146 Henry Raft and Phyllis Paterson, 14100 Henry Ruff, presented the commission with a petition with 600 names and addresses of residents in the area of Henry Ruff and Lyndon requesting the replacement of the STOP sign at the schoel. Ms. Hudson stated she had been a resident for over 30 years and that sign was always there_ She fell for the safety of the children and pedestrians, it should be restorer] The chairman explained the reasons for the removal of the STOP signs _ There are certain warrants that have to be mel requiring a contain amount of traffic through an intersection. None of the streets in that area meet that warrant There is an sight obstruction. Thele is a crossing guard there to serve the students during the hours the children are crossing. Therefore, there is no need to replace the sign. TRAFFIC COMMISSION MINUTES January 14, 20ID Page 2 The commission discussed the STOP sign at Lyndon and Yak_ Upon a motion by Mr Draper, seconded by Mrs_ QuinrFVenWm, and approved, it was 10.02 RESOLVED, That the commission approves the removal of STOP signs at Lyndon at Yak to be replaced with YIELD signs_ The commission discussed a request for a 25 mph speed sign on Fargo east of Farmington Upon a motion by Mrs. Quinn Venture, seconded by Mr Purdy, and approved, it was 10.02 RESOLVED, That the commission approves the installation of 25 mph speed signs, one eastbound and one westbound, on Fargo, east of Farmington. NO: Mr. Kafers, Mr. Draper The commission reviewed a request for a NO OUTLET sign on Mesi %mod west of Merriman (Section 3). Upon a motion by Mr_ SL Johq seconded by Mr_ Draper, and approved, it was 10.03 RESOLVED, That the commission approves the installation of a NO OUTLET sign on Men -wood west of Merriman (Section 3). At the request of the commission, Chairman Steele, and Mr_ Draper met with Mayor Kinksey and Dave Vargas and Kevin Roney tram Engineering_ The mayor made the decision to put the sign back up at Lyndon and Hubbell_ It is a nonJighted intersection and causes sight limitation TRAFFIC COMMISSION MINUTES January 14,2010 Page 3 Upon a motion by Mr_ SL John, secontled by Mr_ Draper, and approved, it was 10.04 RESOLVED, That Die commission rescinds the Traffic Commission Order approving removal of ALLWAYSTOP signs at Lyntlon and Hubbell on the grounds that them is sight Imitator at the location. Since the Sign project has been completed and there are an new items coming in for the Agendas, Chairman Steele requested the commission's thoughts on having commission meetings every other month or as needed. After discussion, the chairman stated he would check with the Mayors office on this matter and report back next meeting_ Upon a motion by Mr. Draper, seconded by Mr. Policolli, and approved, it was 10-05 RESOLVED, That the commission approves the following Traffic Control Orders_ Traffic Control Order: 10-01 Permanent Section 21 Remove STOP for yak at Lyndon. Change STOP to YIELD for yak at Lyndon Traffic Control Order: 10-02 Permanent Section 3 Post 25 mph speed sign on Fargo —east and westbound, east of Farmington Rd. Traffic Control Order: 10-03 Permanent Section 03' Post "NO OUTLET' on Merriwood west of Merriman Traffic Control Order: 10-M Permanent Section 22 Install four-way STOP with supplemental "ALL WAY" at Hubbard! and Lyndon TRAFFIC CIOMMISSION MINUTES January 14, 2010 Page 4 Upon a motion by Mr_ SL John, seconded! by Mrs_ QuinwVentura, and approved, it vas RESOLVED, that the commission be adjourned at 9:00 p.m. NEXT MEETING: February 11, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall WINNIE KIRBV, RecoNing Secretary
