HomeMy WebLinkAboutTraffic Commission 2011-02-10MINUTES OF THE 6641" REGULAR MEETING LIVONIA TRAFFIC COMMISSION The 664'° Regular meeting of the Livonia Tmffc Commission was held in the third floor conference room at City Hall on Thursday, February 10, 2011 was called to order by Chairman Joe Steele. PRESENT: Commissioners Gordon Draper, Jim Policelli, Kevin Prickly, John Katers along with Police Officer Sergeant John Gibbs_ VISITORS ATTENDING: Tammy and Bob Hassan, 9174 Houghton, Livonia 48150 (section 31); Dave Hudson, 9327 Houghton, Livonia 48150 (section 31). The minutes of the January 13, 2011, meeting was reviewed. Upon a motion by Gordon Draper seconded! by John Katers d was approved by unanimous vote that: 1146 RESOLVED, the commission minutes from January 13, 2011, are approved as presented. The three visitors upending the meeting.- Tammy and Bob Hassan and Dave Hudson, express concern with the volume and speed of vehicle traffic throughout their neighborhood (section 31) during select hours (69 am and 36 pm) on weekdays. All three state that vehides, perhaps from a local apartment complex, use various neighborhood streets particularly Houghton to avoid traffic control devices on Hix Road between Ann Arbor and Joy roads. While these vehicles seek a short cuf they speed on these roads creating traffic hazards and unsafe conditions for the resitlences in the subdivision. After a detailed discussion of street mad usage, it was agreed that the police would monitor and enforce all violations (speed and sign enforcement). Additionally, when weather conditions permit, the traffic speed sign and capturing control computer would be used to obtain detailed information to allow for a more accurate analysis_ Permission was obtained for the police to use these residence driveways to allow for traffic monitoring— communication will continue with the police and these residences. This topic will remain an OPEN ISSUE until detailetl information is obtained Sergeant John Gibbs presented a detailed ternyear traffic readout data for the intersection of Meffiman and Puritan Roads. Preliminary analysis indicates that the traffic signal timing may be causing driver'rearcnd' minor vehide acokdents additionally; the actual placement of the signal may be contributing to accidents. Clearly, human analyses including visual lines of sight are needetl before a resolution is voted This topic will remain an OPEN ISSUE and an agenda item for future meetings_ Upon a motion by Kevin Purdy seconded by Gordon Draper it was approved by unanimous vote that: RESOLVED, that the meeting be adjourned at 8:30 pm NEXT MEETING: March 10, 2011, 7:30 pm at City Hall Minutes respectively taken and submitted by Jim Policelli_ These minutes were revked on August 18, 2011, to conect Traffic Contal Order (TCO) num baring to reflect the current year
