HomeMy WebLinkAboutTraffic Commission 2012-02-09MINUTES OF THE 674th REGULAR MEETING LIVONIA TRAFFIC COMMISSION The 674th Regular meeting of the Livonia Traffic Commission held in the third Floor conference room at City Hall on Thursday, February 9, 2012, was called to order by Chairman Joe Steele. PRESENT: Commissioners: John Katers, Kevin Priddy, Cindi Quinn, Gordon Draper, Gordon St. John, Jim Policelli, City Engineer Todd Zilincik along with Police Officer: Sergeant John Gibbs. VISITORS ATTENDING: George Boller, 36270 Hammer, Livonia (section 8); Charlotte Hagie, 12496 Cardwell Street, Livonia (section 25) Agenda Item 1: The minutes of the January 12, 2012, meeting was reviewed. Upon a motion by John Katers, seconded by Kevin Priddy, abstained by Gordon Draper, it was approved by unanimous vote that: 12-80 RESOLVED the commission minutes from January 12, 2012, are approved as presented. Agenda Item 5: George Boller expressed concern with the timing of the traffic signal at Newburg Road and North Laurel Park Drive. George added that the traffic signal is significantly longer for Newburgh Road traffic while waiting at North Laurel Park Drive—this condition exists during weekdays and weekends. George also pointed out where he believes other traffic control signals on Newburgh Road are not timed properly. After much discussion regarding the area of county/city responsibility and the timing of traffic signals operations at Newburgh and North Laurel Park Drive and at Seven Mile and Newburgh Roads, it was agreed that during the upcoming construction of Newburgh Road, Todd Zilincik would communicate to George traffic signal changes that are pending, perhaps seeking his input into the placement and timing of signals. No further action is necessary. Non Agenda Item: Charlotte Hagie stated that local warehouse employees are parking personal vehicles on Grantland, Cardwell and other streets in this area are creating excessive truck and vehicle traffic issues in the neighborhood. After an open discussion with the commission regarding public parking on public roads, Todd Zilincik agreed to present her concern to the Director of Inspection to follow up and discuss with local businesses, including the warehouse, on-site parking for the employees. No further action is necessary. Agenda Items 2 and 3: At the request oft he police department to install yield signs at Levan at Veronica Roads and Levan at Industrial Roads. Upon a motion from John Katers and seconded by Jim Policelli, it was a unanimous vote that: 12-81 RESOLVED yield sign on Levan at Veronica Roads and 12-82 RESOLVED yield sign on Levan and Industrial Roads Agenda Item 4: A request from the police department to install a no left turn sign on Newburgh Road at the northbound exit at Churchill High School and additionally adding an identical sign on southbound Newburgh Road—(facing east) directly in- line with exiting traffic. Upon a motion from Cindy Quinn, seconded by John Katers, it was unanimous vote that: 12-83 RESOLVED to install no left turn 113-2 signs at the northbound exit on Newburgh Road at Churchill High School and on southbound (grass area) Newburgh Road -(facing east) directly in-line with exiting traffic. Agenda Item 6: Decorative traffic signs—stop and yield—have been replaced in section 4 Woodbrooke subdivision. No further action is necessary. Upon a motion by Gordon St. John, seconded by Jim Policelli, it was approved by unanimous vote that: 12-84 RESOLVED that Chairman Joe Steele sign and approve Traffic Control Orders (TCO) 12-1, 12-2, 12-4, 12-6 RESOLVED, that the meeting be adjourned at 9:00 pm.
