LIVONIA TRAFFIC COMMISSION
The 695`" Regular meeting of the Livonia Traffic Commission was held in the third -floor conference room at
City Hall on Thursday, February 13, 2014; it was called to order by Joe Steele.
PRESENT: Commissioners: Kevin Priddy, John Katers, Gordon Draper and Jim Policelli; City of Livonia
Police Officer: Sergeant Joseph Baines; and City of Livonia Engineer Todd Zihncik
VISITOR ATTENDING: Mike Kosmowski, 9991 E. Clements Circle, Livonia (section 36).
Agenda Rem 1: The minutes of the January 9, 2014, meeting was reviewed.
Upon a motion by Gordon Draper, seconded by John Eaters, it was approved by majority vote that:
14-143 RESOLVED, the commission minutes from January 9, 2014, are approved as prevented.
Agenda Rem 2: Mike Kosmowski expressed concern with vehicle traffic flow at the intersection of Industrial
Drive at Middlebelt Road and Millennium Road (a private road exiting from local shopping center).
Specifically, he is concerned with northbound traffic from Industrial Drive interfering or causing confusion with
southbound traffic from Millennium Road. Several issues present a problem at this intersection; including
Industrial and Millennium do not line up east and west but share a common traffic signal. This problem will
continue to grow as the area develops with additional businesses and restaurants. Adding to this problem area is
the shutdown of the I-96 freeway this spring. Todd addressed Mike's concern and shares all the issues that are
present here. He went on to state that the Wayne County Road Commission, along with Michigan Department
of Transportation (MDOT), are also concerned with this area. Parts of the solution that are being discussed are
new traffic signals, painting of directional lines on Middlebelt, and timing of the traffic signal with direction
arrows. It is understood that Middlebelt Road is under the authority of Wayne County, but they will listen and
accept recommendations from the city and state. There is not an immediate fix to this problem, but it will be
addressed. At this time no further action is required.
Agenda Rem 3: Todd provided a brief update on the I-96 construction plan. MDOT has established a
temporary field office located at Stark and Schoolcraft roads during the freeway construction. Construction will
start promptly on March 24th with the bridge closure dates and other critical timing being published on various
web sites and other media outlets. Todd will continue to provide monthly updates to the commission.
RESOLVED: That the meeting he adjourned at 8:15 p.m.
NEXT MEETING: March 13, 2013, at City Hall
Minutes respectively taken and submitted by Jim Policelli.
