CALL T�J THE ALTDIENCE Karen Smith, Assistant Branch Librarian in charge of Children's Services, was a guest at the meeting this evening. CITY LiBRARIAN'S REPURT � 51 City Librarian's Update — City Librarian Toni LaPorte updated the Library 1 Cammissionears on the following• • New DVD Policy• Effectrve November 3F�, we will only charge patrans a fee ta check out new DVDs. Any feature film or TV series that is older + than six months will now be free of charge. This poiicy change wiil also � open up our collection to other TLN libraries for interloan. �� tl� �� �.� ��������� � 1 ��3 ���:=���f� � ,�s� -'���"����� *��x � t s �,�i r' { � s � � �� S.2 Civil Service Repart— `'�-...� • Assistant Branch Librarian/Branches — Jeffrey Lelek has been hired as the new Assistant Branch Librarian for the branches and seems to be settling in nicely in his new position. • Part-Time Cierk I— 4ur new part-time clerk I, Rob Varney, has accepted a full-time clerk I position with DPW. DPW has graciously agreed to share Rab's services with u�while we interview candidates to replace hirn. S.3 Assistant Branch Librarians' Manthly Reparts—There were no questions or comments, 5 4 Council Resolutions--There were no Council Resolutions this manth. S.S Monthly Statistics—There were no questions or comments. 5 6 Correspondence —A letter from the Mayor was shared with the Commission extending the term of service for Commissioner Cathy Candon thraugh the year 2418 5 7 The Library Network: � �—...� • Envisionware The new time management system software for public internet use has been installed at a11 three branches. There have been a few problems since the installation and we are warking to have them fixed. The system is much easier ta use and, as a result, seems to be we11 received by patrons. • Zinio This is an anline service far digital magazines which allows patrons ta check out e-magazines the same way they would check out e-books. Currently, we do not offer Zinia to aur patrons, but we are laoking inta what the cast wc�uld be far our library before we decide if this would be a worthwhile service to have. COIVIMISSIC.�N F�EP{JRTS I � Camm�ssioner Cathy Condan expressed her gratitude for her reappointment as a member of the Library Commissian. - � ��� I ;� i � FRIENDS REPORT Toni informed the Commissioners that the Friends raised$29,000 00 at their October book sale. UNFIl�TISHED BUSINESS There was no unfinished business to address this month. NEW BUSINESS 9 1 Acceptance of Donations — Toni reported the following donations were received this month. $100 00 from the Dearborn Sail & Power Squadron, $100 00 from Kathleen Monroe. On a motion by Christine McQuiston, seconded by Donna Anagnostou, and unanimously adopted, it was #10-15 RESOLVED, that the Livonia Library Commission gratefully accept the following donations: $100.00 from the Dearborn Sail & Power Squadron; � $100.00 from Kathleen Monroe. 9.2 Change in Hours the Wednesday before Thanksgiving—Currently,the Civic Center Library is open until9 00 pm the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Toni shared statistics with the Commissioners indicating that after 5•00 pm,the library is virtually empty and business is extremely slow Furthermore, of the 31 TLN libraries that were surveyed, 26 of those libraries close early the Wednesday before Thanksgiving for the same reasons. As a result, Toni is requesting that the Livonia Libraries close at 5•00 pm the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. After reviewing and discussing the statistics, On a motion by Donna Anagnostou, seconded by Christine McQuiston, and unanimously adopted, it was #11-15 RESOLVED, that the Livonia Libraries close at 5:00 pm the Wednesday before Thanksgiving for the year 2015. Meeting was adjourned at 4.25 p.m. �
