HomeMy WebLinkAbout1190th CSC MEETING1190th REGULAR MEETING OF THE CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION The 1190th Regular Meeting of the Civil Service Commission was held on Thursday, July 10, 2003. The meeting was called to order at 5:30 P.M. Members Present: Ronald E. Campau, Chairperson Charlotte S. Mahoney Harry C. Tatigian Also Present: David G. Beecher, Personnel Analyst II Aurora Northrup, Personnel Analyst I Mary E. Rutan, Human Resources Director Gretchen Guisbert, Secretary III Upon a motion by Ms. Mahoney, seconded by Mr. Tatigian and unanimously adopted, it was RESOLVED, That the minutes of the 1189th Regular Meeting held Thursday, June 19, 2003, be approved as submitted. The Commission received and fled the Status of Temporary Employees Report for June 2003. The Commission received and fled the Non -Resident Report as of July 1, 2003. Upon a motion by Mr. Tatigian, seconded by Ms. Mahaney and unanimously adopted, it was RESOLVED, That having reviewed the Departmental Correspondence of June 27, 2003, from Eric Schilk, Firefighter, as approved for submission by Alan W. Bmndemihl, Jr., Fire Chief, requesting additional paid Family Illness leave, the Civil Service Commission does hereby approve three (3) additional twenty-four (24) hour paid Family Illness leave days, beyond the maximum four (4) twenty- four (24) hour duly days per calendar year allowed. Upon a motion by Ms. Mahoney, seconded by Mr. Tatigian and unanimously adopted, it was RESOLVED, That having reviewed the letter of June 30, 2003, from Laura Callen, Clerk I, as approved for submission by Kathleen Monroe, City Librarian, requesting an unpaid medical leave of absence for serious illness in the immediate family, the Civil Service Commission does hereby approve an unpaid medical leave of absence for three (3) weeks from July 21, 2003 to August 11, 2003, pursuant to Civil Service Commission RULE 25, LEAVES, Section 25.5 Leaves of Absence. Page 2 1190th Regular Meeting July 10, 2003 Upon a motion by Ms. Mahoney, seconded by Mr. Tatigian and unanimously adopted, it was RESOLVED, That having reviewed the expiring eligible list for the month of August 2003 - Building Mechanic IV (846 o.c.), and Equipment Operator II (1138 P.), the Civil Service Commission does hereby approve to extend the eligible lists for Building Mechanic IV (846 o.c.) and Equipment Operator II (1138 p.) for an additional six (6) months. Upon a motion by Ms. Mahoney, seconded by Mr. Tatigian and unanimously adopted, it was RESOLVED, That the Civil Service Commission does hereby approve the eligible list for Clerk -Typist II/Inspection (Nan -competitive). The Commission received and filed the following items: a. Letter of June 23, 2003, from John Orzech, Vice -President, Livonia Fire Fighters Union (LFFU); and letter of July 1, 2003, from George H. Kruszewski, Attorney, Sachs Waldman, forwarding LFFU Grievance #1-03 to arbitration. b. Council Resolutions from the meeting of June 11, 2003, with minutes approved June 23, 2003: CR# 255-03 Approving the proposed Domestic Relations Amendment to the Nationwide Retirement Solutions Plan Document to enable Nationwide to comply with court-ordered Domestic Relations Orders and Qualified Domestic Relations Orders. CR# 280-03 Referring the subject of the annual budget for the fiscal year ending November 30, 2004, to the Finance, Insurance and Budget Committee for its report and recommendation. C. Council Resolution from the meeting of June 23, 2003, with minutes approved July 7, 2003: CR# 291-03 Approving the reappointment of Thomas J. Hagan, Jr., 31062 Pembroke, Livonia, Michigan 48152, to the Zoning Board of Appeals for a three- year term expiring July 12, 2006. CR# 317-03 Approving the reappointment of Toni Audia Aloe, 17921 Fairfield, Livonia, Michigan 48152, to the Zoning Board of Appeals for a three-year term expiring July 12, 2006. CR# 318-03 Approving the reappointment of Robert Sills, 34824 Wood, Livonia, Michigan 48154, to the Zoning Board of Appeals for a three-year term expiring July 12, 2006. d. Affirmative Action Report for June 2003. Upon a motion by Ms. Mahoney, seconded by Mr. Tatigian and unanimously adopted, it was Page 3 119001 Regular Meeting July 10, 2003 RESOLVED, That having reviewed the Letter of July 8, 2003, from Robert J. Beckley, Director of Public Works, and James Zoumbaris, Superintendent of Public Service, requesting a promotional examination for Parks Foreman and proposed qualifications and parts of examination and weights, the Civil Service Commission does hereby approve the following qualification and parts of examination and weights: QUALIFICATIONS This examination is open only to employees of the City of Livonia who, by the closing date of this announcement, are: Employed in the Public Service Division of the Department of Public Works; and Have a minimum of five (5) years experience in the Park Maintenance Section. PARTS OF EXAMINATION AND WEIGHTS Interview -70% Departmental Rating -30%' 'In the event there is only one qualified applicant for this position, the parts of the examination and weights will be 100% Departmental Rating.
