HomeMy WebLinkAboutPRDA MINUTES 2009-04-16 MINUTES OF THE 208TH REGULAR MEETING OF THE PLYMOUTH ROAD DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF LIVONIA The 208th Regular Meeting of the Plymouth Road Development Authority of the City of Livonia, Michigan, was called to order at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, April 16, 2009, in the 4th floor conference room of City Hall. Members Present: John Hiltz, Chairman Wayne Glass, Vice Chairman Scott Grace Toni Mette Greg Meyer Lowell Peterson Dan West Members Absent: Jack Kirksey, Mayor (excused) Betsy McCue (excused) Others Present: John J. Nagy, Executive Director Carey Baker, Beckett & Raeder Steve Levesque, Commercial Mowing Robert Auth, Resident (1, Marge Watson, Secretary 1. Roll was called. A quorum was present. 2. Audience Communication. Dr. Robert Ault brought to the attention of the Board that the caps are missing from the pillars in front of Overseas Motors. John Nagy said that caps will be salvaged from the Levan Road construction project and will be used at the Overseas Motors location. 3. Adoption of the 207th Regular Meeting Minutes. On a motion made by Mette, supported by Glass, and unanimously adopted, it was #2009-11 RESOLVED, that the Minutes of the 207th Regular Meeting held by the Plymouth Road Development Authority on March 19, 2009, are hereby approved. Mr. Hiltz, Chairman, declared the motion is carried and the foregoing resolution adopted. April 16, 2009 2 4. Committee Reports: Construction Committee: (a) Carey Baker, Beckett & Raeder, advised that the Michigan Department of Transportation is planning construction projects on Plymouth Road for 2012, which could save the PRDA approximately $250,000. The City's Law Department is reviewing the current contract with Rauhorn to determine what liability, if any, would result from canceling the contract. Other alternatives will also be explored including taking possession of the materials from Rauhorn to be used at a later time and looking at other sites for upgrade on Plymouth Road in order to fulfill the Rauhorn contract. Ms. Mette suggested bus shelters as an alternate project, and Mr. West thought that some visual enhancement to Plymouth Road should take place this year. Beckett & Raeder was requested to submit quotes for alternate intersection work. (b) Mr. Baker, Beckett & Raeder, advised that the proposed improvement projects on Plymouth Road have been submitted to MDOT for consideration for funding from the Economic Stimulus Funding program. Executive Committee: Mr. Hiltz requested that the Friends of the Barn be contacted for their interest in a joint memorial to Stan Anderson and that a report be submitted at the next meeting. Public Relations Committee: (a) Toni Mette explained that at the Public (iv Relations Committee, they discussed an Automobile Dealership promotion program to be scheduled for later this summer for Plymouth Road. It was suggested that the Wolverine and Spartan football schedules be reviewed to avoid scheduling conflicts. (b) The spring newsletter will include the Taste Fest promotion and an article about Stan Anderson. The cost will be approximately $13,200 for design, printing, and mailing 28,000 pieces. 5. Director's Report: (a) Mr. Nagy advised the Board that the location of the 35th Annual Volunteer Day Celebration on April 23 has been moved to the City Hall auditorium. He also thanked John Hiltz and Greg Meyer for their participation in the Channel 8 interviews that will be featured at the event. (b) A corridor-wide tree trimming project is being planned for Plymouth Road and a report will be provided to the Board. (c) Mr. Nagy also advised the PRDA will participate in the City's sidewalk repair program this summer to take advantage of the savings. Greg Meyers has contacts for utility companies who damage sod when making utility repairs. Ms. Mette asked that curb repairs be included in the next budget, and Mr. Grace would like to have a curb replacement program in place for Plymouth Road. 6. Polling of Members: Toni Mette reported that Monster Media has opened in the vacant Waldenbooks store and inquired if the flowers for Plymouth Road had been ordered for this summer. • • April 16, 2009 3 Scott Grace suggested that the PRDA web site be updated and that more emphasis be placed on its use. Dan West announced that the Chamber of Commerce's "Wake Up Livonia" event will take place on April 24 at the Radisson at 7:30 a.m. The Livonia Expo and College Fair will take place on May 7 at Burton Manor. John Hiltz thanked Greg Meyer and John Nagy for volunteering to be interviewed for the Volunteer Day video. Letters from the Mayor, dated April 13, 2009, to City Council requesting the reappointment of Toni Mette and Grey Meyer to the PRDA Board have been received. Wayne Glass advised that he will not be in attendance at the May 21 meeting, and congratulated Scott Grace on Daly's Restaurant 50th anniversary. Adjournment: On a motion duly made, seconded and unanimously adopted, the 208th Regular Meeting held by the Plymouth Road Development Authority on April 16, 2009, was adjourned at 4:15.
