HomeMy WebLinkAboutTraffic Commission 2019-02-14MINUTES OF THE 754th REGULAR MEETING LIVONIA TRAFFIC COMMISSION The 754th Regular meeting of the Livonia Traffic Commission was held in the 3rd Floor Conference Room at City Hall on Thursday, February 14, 2019; it was called to order by Chairperson Jim Policelli at 7:30 p.m. PRESENT: Commissioners: Jim Policelli, John Katers, Jonathan Wood, Joel Turbiak, Rebekah Farabaugh, and Jim Keller; Livonia Police Department Sgt. Brian Leigh and City of Livonia Engineer Todd Zilincik. ABSENT: Gordon Draper and Gordon St. John VISITORS: None Agenda Item 1: The minutes of the January 10, 2019, meeting were reviewed. A motion to approve minutes as written was made by Commissioner Farabaugh and with support from Commissioner Katers, it was unanimously voted upon that: 19-283 RESOLVED, the minutes of the January 10, 2019, meeting are approved as written. Agenda Item 2: Formal welcome and introduction of new Commissioner, Jonathan Wood. Agenda Item 3: Email requests. A request for speed bumps was made in Section 9 on Laurel Street, north of 6 Mile Road, along with a similar request on Laurel Street in Section 33, south of Plymouth Road. Chairperson Policelli will generate a response to those emails. An additional request was received for deer crossing signs along Ann Arbor Trail in Section 32. Past traffic data determined that car/deer accidents were non-existent in the area, thereby not warranting placement of such signs. Agenda Item 4: Request from City Council for traffic study/suggestions in Section 33. City Council requested information pertinent to a future development at 34417 Ann Arbor Trail. Upon discussion it was suggested that: • a taper lane be designed immediately before Norwich Street to the west, allowing traffic to gently merge out of traffic to conduct a turn • placement of reflective tape be adhered on poles and update the reflective chevron signage at the curve on Ann Arbor Trail heading both east and west • upgrade the LED street lighting on Ann Arbor Trail • combine the driveways for proposed lots 2 and 3, all the lots (1-4) should have sidewalks placed back from the roadway to match any existing sidewalks, and update the ADA compliant approach ramps Roundtable Comments: "Bicycle to Work or School" day is scheduled for May 8, 2019, with a rain date of May 9, 2019. The "Passport to Safety" event will be located at the YMCA/Stymelski Park and is scheduled for June 8, 2019.
