Calhoun makes a motion to pass meeting minutes. K. Victor-Burke seconds. All approve. New/Old Business Roof replacement on the J. Morell Simmons House, 38528 Eight Mile. Could make a motion to replace with something similar. The homeowner/contractor was not present at the meeting, and no further details were provided to the Commission, so further discussion was tabled. Cemetery stone repair at Clarenceville Bungalow house repair. HPC suggests getting price differentials on shake shingles. Advocate for noting that we carefully considered the city's historic property standards. Is there a way to set aside some of that savings for other things (not operations)? Need to determine how the state views substitute materials and would it apply in this instance. Should be able to get 50 years with shake shingles. Composite does not require maintenance. Need to research Interior Standards. Will request samples. Date to mark stones for repair, possibly in June. Fence gates estimate at $16,400 Preservation Month is May- MHPN Conference May 11-15. EMU/WSU student internships: Kristin will follow up with WSU intern office. Will take out an ad for Garden Walk. Did a half page ad last time. 5.2 K. Waterbury makes a motion to take a half page ad out for $50 for the Garden Walk. B. Calhoun seconds. All approve. Alfred Noble Library: City planner has no plans for Noble Library at this time. J. Duka has been talking to the Old Rosedale homeowners committee and the preservation of the building. Group wants to assist with this, some communication with the library director. Feedback was that the building cannot be saved. Would be wise to get it on the historic register. Will consider drafting a letter to the City Planner’s office and HPC. Union Briggs Cemetery. HPC needs an update on what is happening at the site. Ted was meeting w/Theatre group. Grading and damage needs to be repaired to the area. Working towards getting a fence put in along the property line. Emily is in the process of getting a quote/sketch for iron fence and will be done in phases. Verizon Tower at Laurel Park. No issue with this going up. Livonia 2021 plan: Wade Trim had a meeting w/committee. Next step was a flyover of Greenmead before leaves developed on trees. Most attending the meeting wanted to maintain the historic integrity of Greenmead. Potentially will have a booth at the flea market to gather public opinion. Fundraisers Happily Ever After, July 15 and 16 (based on Covid restrictions). Schedule slotted times for people to walk through. No speaker. $5-6 per ticket. Get favors from Dollar Tree. Set up Mon-Weds; tear down Friday evening. Need to put together the plan and get it to the law dept to approve. 2-6pm Thurs/Friday; plan on circular motion for walk through; 10 people at a time every 20 minutes. Civil War Tea, September 25. No guns and gowns event with the 17th Michigan. Maureen had a speaker idea. Lavender sachets as favors. 5.3 K. Waterbury makes a motion to recommend spending up to $1,000 for the Civil War Tea. K. Victor-Burke seconds. All approve. Current Items Certified Local Government Application: Still on the agenda for next Monday. Reach out to Mark T. to see where it’s at in the process. The Historic District Survey is still waiting on approval. Possible joint HPC/HC meeting on July 14th at 6p.m. Greenmead Updates Met with collections specialist Sharon, and will be working over time Judge Blue House - need to check in with Ron. May need to do a historic survey on the building. Events happening as scheduled.
