Scott Sczepanski of the LPD Traffic Bureau ABSENT: None VISITORS: Tony Moleski Agenda Item 1: The minutes of the meeting held on October 10, 2021 were reviewed No corrections were brought forth. Therefore, a motion was made by Commissioner St. John, supported by Commission Katers, to approve the October minutes as written. It was voted upon unanimously that, 20-337 RESOLVED, the minutes from the meeting held on October 10, 2021 were approved as written Agenda Item 2: Speeding Complaint at the Western Golf Subdivision at Oakley and Inkster Resident and HOA President, Tony Moleski, noted that several families in the area of Cavell, Oakley, Harrison and Santa Anita streets have noticed traffic is traveling faster than the posted speed limits. Additionally, the lack of lighting, yield signs and stop signs are only exaberating the issue. The start and end times of the school day, as well as rush hour, seem to be the worst time frames for the speeding. Per the Traffic Bureau, the speed data showed that Oakley and Harris averaged a speed of 24.64 mph. Oakley and Santa Anita averaged a speed of 21.42 mph. Cavell Street was recently under construction so speed data was not collected at that location. Now that the construction has ended, however, a data box will be placed. The Commission discussed adding yield signs with reflective tape and ensuring that they were visible. A motion was made to install (R 2-1) Speed Limit 25 MPH sign on Cavell Street for southbound traffic from 5 Mile Road, as well as on Cavell Street, just north of Oakley, for northbound traffic. Additionally, signs would be placed on Western Golf Drive for both east and westbound traffic at or near the curve where the street changes direction (from north to west, or south to east). All signs would have added reflective tape. A motion was made by Commissioner Katers and supported by Commissioner Farabaugh. It was voted upon unanimously that, 20-338 RESOLVED, install (R 2-1) Speed Limit 25 MPH sign on Cavell Street for southbound traffic from 5 Mile Road, as well as on Cavell Street, just north of Oakley, for northbound traffic. All signs would have added reflective tape. Agenda Item 3: Email Request from the Mayor’s Office for “No Parking” signs on Melvin Street A resident requested “No Parking” signs on Melvin, near Joy Road, adjacent to the Animal Hospital. The complainant stated that there were several employees of the Animal Hospital parking on the public street and it was causing challenges for residents of that street when they wanted to park in the street. Per discussion by the Commission, it was determined that while a difficulty may exist, Melvin is a public road and parking is allowed as long as it does not impede a driveway to a residence or business. Therefore, no further action will be taken at this time. No New Business No Updates/Comments Meeting was adjourned at 8:43 p.m. without a formal motion. th NEXT MEETING: December 9, 2021, at 7:30 p.m. in the 5 Floor Gallery of City Hall Respectfully submitted, Jim Keller Recording Secretary
