Valentine and J. Valentine Absent: Karczewski, Moore, VanDeven Staff: Keppen Guests: No guests Motion 7-25-1 made by P. Valentine and seconded by Kent to approve the Minutes of the meeting held on June 26, 2022. Approved. Received and filed. Treasurer’s Report: Report given by Keppen.. Motion 7-25-2 made by D. Spurling, seconded by J. Valentine to receive and file. Approved. Visiting Artist Series in Fine Arts Gallery/City Hall Gallery Bosak/Moore/Mang – Gallery: Bosak reported July Gallery artist was a no show and could not be contacted. The Gallery remained empty for the month. The August artist, Vasu Tolia, has reduced the prices of her paintings since the Commission suspended commissions for the remainder of the year. Spence, Karczewski, VanDeven’s son, D. Spurling and Bosak signed up to exhibit in September. No reception planned at this time. Installation September 1 from 5:00 to 8:00. Petersmark, Perrish and Fisher invited to participate. Bosak to measure sign stands and Keppen will have the Marketing Department prepare signs each month for the Gallery and City Hall artist information. Plastic letters will no longer be used. P. Valentine - City Hall: John Lange continuing to exhibit in City Hall due to death of planned artist. Mieriel Ripley to exhibit also. Fine Arts Exhibition – Karczewski: Absent. Duggan reported Marianne Wilkenson had sent an email withdrawing as juror for the Exhibition. Robert Maniscala contacted as replacement. Process discussion followed. Motion 7-25-3 made by P. Valentine, seconded by J. Valentine to accept Robert Maniscala as juror. Approved. Arts Commission Meeting Page 2 July 25, 2022 MFTH – Duggan: Three concerts held so far. Heat probably caused smaller crowd at last concert. Medical event occurred. Emergency plan discussed. Kepper will share concert location and dates with the Fire Department. Pool staff also trained for emergencies. Commissioners should be identified at each concert to be responsible for contacting 911, pool staff. Location of the band shell was discussed. Keppen advised they had looked into it and no change made due to electricity and other issues. Scholarships - C. Spurling: One student’s payment still outstanding. School Incentives - P. Valentine: No activity. Grants – Mang: Instrument committee to meet and bring back suggestions for new installations. Quarterly concerts suggested. Need Grant Watch subscription renewed. Motion 7-25-4 made by D. Spurling, seconded by Gilligan to renew the Grant Watch subscription for one year at the current price. Approved. Facebook - D. Spurling: VanDeven to meet with Spurling and take over responsibility for social media. New / Ongoing Business Musical Instruments – Updated above. Zonjic Concert – Bosak: Final report shows shortfall of $1245. Zonjic suggested ticket price of $35. Kids Concerts – C. Spurling: Spence and C. Spurling managing craft projects. Face painter popular and does something different each week. C. Spurling unavailable month of August. Spence will help and Keppen has volunteers lined up also. Question asked if donations can be asked for at events. Home School – Duggan will make contact. Voicemail – Keppen advised the Commissioners need process to answer voicemails. Parks and Rec would like two people assigned. Keppen sending out instructions. Davis to discuss further at August meeting. Arts Commission Meeting Page 3 July 25, 2022 Other: Spence reported she had replied to Budzinski email requesting basic information on the activities of the Arts Commission. Keppen advised the Minutes are available online. Motion 7-25-22-5 made by J. Valentine, seconded by Gilligan to adjourn at 8:00. Approved. Respectfully submitted as Secretary, Virginia Bosak 7-26-22 2022 Meetings and events – General Meetings to be held at the Rec Center at 6:30 p.m. Dates: January 24, February 28, March 28, April 25, May 23, June 27, July 25, August 22, September 26, October 24, November 28, December 12. *Due to Covid-19 meetings may be changed to ZOOM meetings on these dates and times. Zonjic concert May 7. Children’s Concerts 6:30 Tuesdays July 5-August 16. Music from the Heart 7:00 pm Thursdays July 7 – September 1. Shakespeare in the Park: July 29, 30 and 31.
