MINUTES OF THE 796 REGULAR MEETING

The 796 Regular meeting of the Livonia Traffic Commission was held in the 5 Floor Gallery of City Hall
on Thursday, January 12, 2023; it was called to order by Chairperson Jim Policelli at
7:35 p.m.
PRESENT: Jim Policelli, , Rebekah Farabaugh, John Katers, James Keller, Gordon St. John, Yara
Racine, Tom Wrenbeck, City Engineer Todd Zilincik and Sgt. Paul Walters of the LPD Traffic Bureau
ABSENT:
VISITORS:
Announcement: There are new contacts within the Livonia Police Department. Lt. Mockeridge will be
taking over supervision of the traffic patrol and plans to attend Traffic Commission meetings periodically.
Protocols relating to interactions and follow-ups with the Traffic Commission were reviewed with Lt.
Mockeridge
Agenda Item 1:
The minutes from the December 8, 2022 meeting were reviewed
No corrections were brought forth. Therefore, a motion was made by Commissioner St. John, supported
by Commissioner Katers, to approve the December 8, 2022 minutes as written. It was voted upon
unanimously that,
20-358 RESOLVED, the minutes from the December 8, 2022 meeting
were approved as written
Agenda Item 2: Request for “No Truck” sign at Five Mile and Eckles Roads
A resident called the Engineering Department to request a “No Truck” signed be placed at Eckles Road,
south of Five Mile due to the truck traffic that is looking for a short cut to I-96 through the residential
neighborhood. Todd Zilincik recommended a sign for “No Truck Traffic” when entering Eckles facing
southbound entrance off of 5 Mile Road. Commissioner Katers motioned, with support from Chairman
Policelli, to install R5-2 “No Trucks” sign with a supplementary plaque stating “except deliveries” at
Eckles facing southbound traffic south of 5 Mile Road. It was voted upon unanimously that,
20-359 RESOLVED, to install R5-2 “No Trucks” sign with a supplementary plaque stating
“except deliveries” at Eckles facing southbound traffic south of 5 Mile Road
Agenda Item 3: Request for “Deer Crossing” signs
Resident Jack Stalling resides on Brentwood Street (Section 1) and requested “Deer Crossing” signs in
his neighborhood to alert drivers to the large deer herds in his area. It was determined by the
Commission that signs would not be impactive. No further action will be taken at this time.

Agenda Item 4: Concern for Safe Pedestrian Crossing at Six Mile and the I-275 Bike/Walk Trail
Resident Rob Blazoff of Riverside Street expressed concern for safe pedestrian crossing at Six Mile
Road at the I-275 bike/walk trail (Section 7). City Engineer Todd Zilincik stated that he spoke with the
resident and suggested crossing at Five Mile because it’s safer. The Commission suggested that this be
referred to the Bike-Walk Livonia Advisory Committee. No further action will be taken at this time.
Chairman’s Comments
Chairman Policelli informed the Commission that the year end review for 2022 had been emailed to all
the Commissioners
Roundtable Discussion
Sgt. Walters informed the Commission that the light at the Chick-Fil-A on Middle Belt and Plymouth
Roads had been improved by Wayne County. While a “No Left Turn” signs is currently installed on
private property at the Middle Belt exit, Sgt. Walters raised concern about the effectiveness of the sign.
He will pursue the installation of a second sign on the opposite side of Middle Belt to make the “No Left
Turn” an enforceable infraction.
Commissioner Katers expressed concern with the visibility while turning on red at Stark and Plymouth
Roads. He suggested making it a candidate for a “No Turn on Red” sign. Sgt. Walters will pull crash
data for this intersection to be used for discussion at the next meeting. Chairman Policelli indicated he
would place this on the February 9, 2023 agenda.
